I did some reserch on this, and it is interesting that birthdays are mentioned in the bible- they were considered pagan even then that is before christmas and all the paganness that comes w/that came about. The early Chistains as well a Jesus himself did not celebrate birthdays- so no Jesus and the early Christian would not of said "happy birthday". That poster needs to do their homework.

No, we do not celebrate Christmas "for the kiddies". We celebrate it to commemorate the coming of the Savior of the human race into the world. We consider that an occasion worthy of celebrating. After the death and Resurrection of the Savior it is the most important event in the history of the human race. The Pope was correct in stating that we don't know the actual birth date of Jesus Christ, and that it was probably not December 25. But the event is still important enough to be celebrated, so a date for the celebration was declared by the Christian Church. Or would you consider George Washington's birthday more significant than that of God?

I wonder, do you celebrate your birthday? No one in the bible celebrated Christmas friend.
We were told to remember His Death, not His Birth. Even so, His Birth is written in several pages of the Bible.
No the Birth was not in December, nor was it snowing etc. But we simply call a day Christmas and celebrate His birth, just as most of us celebrate a day called our birthday.
That last line about the kiddies, yes there are some who out do one another to get their kids the best gift possible and forget why we chose the day to celebrate in the first place.
You say it was banned but not why. Those of us who are Christians know Jesus wasn't born on Dec. 25th. Are you just finding this out? Are you a JW by any chance?

Whether Christmas falls on 25th December or 1st February or any other days is irrelevant. The date is purely symbolic . What is celebrated is Christ's birth .
So what if a pagan holiday falls on 25th December ? Their celebration is for a difference purpose.
By the way how do you know that the Apostle did not celebrate Christ's birthday (they may have celebrated it on another day) ?Just because the bible does not mention does not mean that the apostles did not celebrate.
Gosh ! i just forgot, my sister's birthday is on 25th december. Got to advise her to stop celebating her birthday - she mght be accused of paganism as well

In England, they celebrate the Royal birthday on the same day every year. Despite on which day the Queen or King was born. That doesn't make it any less of a legitimate celebration. Since the exact date of our Lord's birth is not known, December 25 is as good a any. And, no, the apostles did not celebrate Christmas, but the shepards, wise men and angles did. God Bless.

the Apostles were men of the Resurrection and this is what drove them, and as the early church grew it celebrated the birth of Jesus just as we do today, the dates were different because of the change of the calender, but the feast is the important thing not wether we have the exact date.
and sadly you are right that too many are forgettful of the birth of Christ and see it as another secular holiday like halloween.

Christmas is a pagan holiday centered around sun worship (winter solstice).
We don't celebrate Christmas in our house. No, I'm not a JW.

How do you define Christmas?
I am sure they told Christ Happy Birthday if birthdays were celebrated in those days. I am also sure it was in the spring. Someone marked his age somehow.
Lighten up . . . it may be pagan in origin, but people's intentions today are what is important. When else do you see such warm, loving responses to even strangers! Too bad every day is not more like Christmas.
