its very possible his rising from the dead means he just got better and made noise and freaked the guards out, considering the lack of education of the times this would seem possible, even in the 1800s they buried people they thought were dead but were actually still alive, if he actually survived it would have freaked people out enough to believe he had risen from the dead, due to thier lack of independent thinking and knowledge, 10 year olds today are brighter and more educated then they were 2000 years ago and if your high priest said it was so then you just believed him,i know i will get the radical christians saying that i am going south for eternity but is that really independent thinking of them,

If you understood how crucifiction worked you would know that "waking up" three days later from that kind of turture and beatings wouldn't be possible. Even if by some miracle he did wake up he wouldn't have had the strength to move the stone which estimates say weighed over 10 tons.

I think there is a lot of documentation on Christ, his life and death, if you do not want to rely on the Bible. As for if he really ressucitated, it is a different story.
As for people being smarter today then they were before, I think you are not taking into consideration, that life was totally different, and a youngster of 12 had most of the time the responsibility people don't even think of at 30 today.
On the matter of people being buried because others thought them dead, that is a kind of disease or state. That's why they started to hold some ceremonies so that time would be given just in case.
There has always been free thinkers. Are you sure you are free to express your ideas next to your peers?
society is controlling by nature.
Give better thought before expressing yourself, and try not to mix things that don't belong.

I think it's a fair question. Good for you for asking, and wanting to being informed and educated doesn't mean that you're going south for eternity. I think though, that after being whipped, hung on a cross, and stabbed in the heart... it's pretty safe to say that you're dead. He was locked in a tomb, so even if he did make some kind of noise (you know where dead people momentarily gasp for air or whatever)... nobody would have heard him. Also, the Romans wouldn't have wanted people to think that Jesus had come back to life. That would have been proof that he was the messiah, and they killed him because they believed he wasn't. If anyone wanted to keep Jesus dead, it was the Romans. Also, when Jesus rose from the dead, he appeared to people. Not just one or two people that we could explain away with hallucinations... but to whole crowds of people. You can't have 500 people having the same hallucination all at once. And these people went on to die for what they saw. Would you give up your life for something you thought may have been a hallucination? No, you give up your life to defend something that you know to be 110% true.

If you accept as truth the reports of Jesus being whipped, beaten, dragging as cross through Jerusalem, being asphyxiated on said cross, then being stabbed in the side...then you should also believe He was resurrected. Crucifixion isn't like the flu where you get over it in three days.

On a side note, be careful of the whole "independent thinking is the only way to go"...sometimes, its prudent to follow the crowd; for example, if everyone avoids a certain area because they believe it to be a hazardous material dump and someone decides "well, I'm an independent thinker...I don't care what the crowd says", that's not especially bright. Just because a 2.1 billion people say it's true, doesn't mean it isn't.

i would like to say that being crucified was an everyday thing back then ,some people hung for days and days ,,,,they did not stab someone in the heart [immediate death]they made them suffer and were examples so that others would not become thieves etc etc .also they normally would break the legs and then insert nails into the feet and the hands .
there are some thoughts that pilaf actually did NOT break Jesus's legs and that after three days he was removed for pilaf loved him very much ,,,some reports that Jesus was taken to saftey and exiled to egypt where he continued teaching the love of God .
i realise that people believe he died on the cross ,,,,,but ya know it is possible that the story is different then what was written ,plus the fact the bible HAS been altered ,misinterpeted .
the mere facts of crucification can give pause to the crediability of him dieing three days after .......................many lasted much longer ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i do believe Jesus was an enlightned master teacher ,,,but i feel many of his teachings have been lost, misquoted ,altered ,very sad really ...............

The Bible proves all that happened:
Luke 23:44-46 " It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness cameover the whole land until the ninth hour, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn intwo. Jesus called out with a loud voice ' father, into your hands i commit my spirit'. When he said this, he breathed his last." okay, now that you know that Jesus really did die ont he cross now you need to know that he was truly dead and that he truly rose from death... In the same book, Luke, you see that in verses2-8, to summarize, the women went to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away and that he was not there. Two angels appeared and they said " why do look for the living among that dead? He is not here he is risen, just as he said." now, dying on a cross was very painful and they died, whether they had a spear shoved through their side or they suffocated, they always died, it was the most horrific way to die. the stone that was rolled in front of the tomb was WAY to heavy to be moved by just one or two men, it required many men with tools to close it and seal it. Jesus was dead three days then God rose him from the dead. There is so much proof to Jesus's death and resurection, if you don't believe it i recommend you pick a Bible up and look for yourself. God Bless

Well, Jesus' death certainly was a great shock to the apostles. Their decision to follow Jesus didn't depend on whether or not he died and rose from the dead -- they followed Jesus because his message made so much sense. It was clear that he was a man of God.

Jesus came to preach. When you read the gospels, count the number of times Jesus is so overwhelmed by the multitudes of people coming to be healed that he has to run away -- he gets in a boat to get away, he sneaks out of town before dawn -- you name it. His great compassion did not allow him to turn people away -- but for every person he healed, a thousand more would come. He was overwhelmed.

One morning when he left before dawn his disciples told him that everyone was looking for him. He said, let's go to the next town and preach. "It is for this purpose that I have come."

Jesus came to preach. If you doubt his death on the cross, don't let that stop you from absorbing his message. Read and live by what Jesus taught us, and let that be your focus, not his death or ressurection.

A word of caution -- Islam teaches that Jesus didn't die or rise from the dead, and Muslims will tell you that they believe he was a prophet. The definition of a prophet is someone who is called or sent to deliver a message. Yet, Muslims have no idea what Jesus' message was, and the Koran is fundamentally the opposite of what Jesus taught.

For example, the Koran cites some 22 different kinds of sinners that God doesn't love. Allah loves not the unjust. Allah loves not the glutton. Etc. According to the Koran, Allah "loves" us only while we're doing what he says. This is not love, this is manipulation. This is not the loving Father we have come to know through Jesus.

If in the end you decide you don't believe in the ressurection, don't give up on Jesus. Keep reading. Keep searching. Keep asking questions. Keep praying. You will find your truth.

Hi:

If you read carefully the account of His Crucifixion it is clear that he died on the cross. According to Isaiah he was beaten to the point of being unrecognizable as a human being. "His visage was marred more than any man his form more than the sons of men". Think of the exposure he had as he hung in that condition in the heat of the noonday sun. Crucifixion was a slow painful death; the victim could prolong their lives by holding themselves up by their feet, that is why the soldiers broke their legs to hasten death. However, when they came to Jesus they found that he was dead already, so they broke not his legs. However, we read that a soldier took a spear and plunged it into his side and out flowed blood and water. The spear was to his heart, a wound which no one could survive. Their is absolutely no doubt that Jesus died and the part which men find hard to believe is that he lives today. He told the people "I have power to lay down my life and I have power to take it up again." This proves to us that he is the Son of God, God manifest in the flesh. He died and rose again from the dead and is able to save all that come to him by faith. Amazing love!

so i guess after they put him down from the cross, which he was on for 3 days he just got better? Logically that is impossible-if needles was put into your skin and you were left up there until you die-you will bleed to death first. Of course people today are more educated we have advance, you can't hold that against them. They did the best they could w/ what they know. People 2000 yrs from now will be more educated then we are now. It's the process of life, we learn more as time progress.

That's one possibility.

I think it's more likely that the entire story was made up. If that's not the case, then a second possibility is that he really was killed, but that the "resurrection" part of the story was just a fabrication by the Apostles.

That kind of thing happens all the time - just look at the "Cassie Bernall" story after Columbine (sources below). This first source says that girl's mother was "candid" about the possibility that the story is false...but that didn't stop her (the mother) from publishing "She Said Yes: The Unlikely Martyrdom of Cassie Bernall". What's important to religion is not truth, but rather telling a compelling story.
