yes pot can be psychologically addictive and you can become dependent on it. . however alcohol is more addictive, because if u abuse it ,your body craves the alcohol. if u have a problem with drinking and quit, u can go into TD"s with pot your body does not have withdrawal symptoms. u might be irritable, and edgy, but you do not have the physical problems with pot as u do with alcohol, unless you have breathing problems then pot can be a problem i had to add this later to respond to another person that answered pot is the main reason in western society that causes mental illness. i also worked in community health and in psychiatric hospital and have never seen one case of mental illness due to pot. mental illness is caused by a chemical disturbance in the brain. pot has nothing to do with this. some of my colleagues smoked pot for years , including a doctor, and today they as still functioning well and are a help to society i am not advocating for pot, but want to point out it is not as dangerous as people think it is

I KNOW that marijuana is not addictive. Neither is crack or heroin (don't know about crystal meth). By this I mean, you will not experience symptoms of withdrawel from these drugs. There is nothing to keep you from stopping their use except your own choice, is the issue (meaning that there is no excuse to keep using)
However, understand a few things. Pot and other drugs are extremely dangerous. Pot is the number one cause of mental illness in the western world. Most mental patients in a community mental health setting had no symptoms until they started doing drugs. The most common drug, by far is pot. When they stop using, their symptoms go away. You do the math.
Pot and other drugs change you, mentally and morally. They turn you into the type of person who likes to do drugs and engage in other depraved acts. They turn you into a scumbag. Marijuana isn't addictive exactly. There will be no pain involved if you stop using it. That's not the problem. No, the problem is that pot will change you into someone who DOESN'T WANT to stop. You will think and act in all ways like the average drug using scumbag instead of the way you used to be. This makes treatment extremely difficult. The person doesn't care to get better. The difference can be rather marked. An example. I once treated a woman with a PhD in engineering who had a 6 figure income when she was in her early 30's But, now, in her mid-40's she lives on welfare and prostitutes herself in return for drugs. She would rather live that lifestyle than the one where she had the 6 figure job (she also had a husband and children at one time). Think about that a second. Before drug use, she had a good life and would have been mortified at the prospect of being a drug prostitute living in the projects. But a short decade later after doing drugs and she could care less about her old life and all she wants to do is turn tricks and get high and shows no interest in the husband and family she lost. This is not an isolated incident. I worked community mental health for many years and saw that pattern over and over and over again. Some of those people were crack/meth heads. Most of them were pot smokers.
That is where my info comes from, btw. Working with hundreds of what are known as DD (dual diagnosis) patients, mentally ill/substance abuse, in a community mental health setting. Even though the setting is not specifically DD (we served all patients), 100% of them were DD. I KNOW that the addiction myth is a bunch of bullshit because I heard it over and over again from the horses mouth. And I know what the real issue is here because I had to work so damn hard with these people and saw the repeating pattern of pre-drug life vs drug-life for these guys. It ain't pretty.
And it will happen to you if you do drugs, I guarentee.

Not a true addiction. How ever some people have what i call an addictive personality. These people will be addicted to soda pop, chewing gum,ice cream, etc. But if they don't get there fix they don't go into withdraw ls.Though they might act anxious and want what ever it is . I have smoked since the mid 60,s. and have never known anyone who was addicted. It is simple inebriation with all it,s potential for abuse. Not addictive but that is just my humble opinion.

Yes - Marijuana is very much addictive after use for sometimes. A stage will come you can not live without it and by hook or crook you will try to get and take it. In addtion to this the health hazards and effects are very worst. You will find short or long-term psychosis/schizophrenic disorders, Varying amounts of paranoia and anxiety- usually when overdosed or anxious before use, loss of coordination and distorted sense of time, Impairment of short-term memory in some heavy use.Auditory or visual hallucinations Increased mental activity.
It is better to avoid it-

No scientific evidence has proven that it is, but it is like any other activity. Shopping for instance, some women, and men, say they are addicted to shopping. The truth of the matter is that ppl prioritize the gratification of an activity higher than the priorities of a majority of the people of the nation. THus the activity is labaled as an addiction. Word.

I think the people described above have addictive personalities, if it wasn't marijuana, it would be something else. I don't feel that the drug itself causes addiction. I know quite a few professionals who use it occassionally (less than once every couple of weeks).

YES! it is very addictive! My brother uses it and he has been for years. He has become an overwieght, lazy loser. I hate to say such a thing about my own brother, but her doesn't even keep a job very long and is a burden on my mother. He can't give up the stupid stuff. When he was a teen, it was like, well, he willl grow out of it. Now he is 35 and nope, he can't give it up.

i think marijuana is adddictive because it makes people feel good and makes them come back to it. my brother has been smoking for 4 years and hes 19 and its caused alot of problems for him, but he has still come back to it. why? cause its addictive.
My brother has been in a mental institution twice already because of his crazy behavior and he has bipolar disorder. despite he knows that marijuana sets of his behavior he stil does it because he is addicted. all he does now that he lives in the house is watch tv, computer, music, and blaze it everyday and we cant say anything about it. weed has caused him to be a lazy loser who isnt productive at all.

I've been taught that it is more psychologically addictive than physically addictive. Your brain requires more and more of it to receive that initial feeling of euphoria.
