Why must you never wash Bob Ross brushes in water?

My guess is that the glue that holds the bristles in the ferule is water soluable. Either that, or there's some kind of sizing in the hairs to keep them in their shape that is water soluable.

Bob Rosses' brushes are meant to be used with oil paint if you use water it will not clean right. However, if you use the same brushes for acrylics or water color, you should be able to wash them.
