I am curious, which is the bigger club. I met some GS fans because they won one cup in Europe they claim they are the best. Then I met some FB fans telling me they have more fans than anyone. When i was i Turkey (lived there 2 yrs.) FB seemed like they have a lot more fans, nicer stadiums and talked about a lot more and seems that in every sport they are geared for championship. Where as GS looked like they dont have much money, they have been succesful here and there but they always lose to FB and hey had a lot less fans...
Is this true? What do you guys think? Please keep it English and polite. I know in Turkey this issue can get a little heated. I am just curious.
PS - (I am half Italian half Greek not a per say fan of either) I also went to one game between the two teams ever in my life, the result wa a devastating 6-0 loss for the favor of FB.

PS2: Who is Besiktas? I did not hear much about them when I was in Turkey. I looked on many web sites they are not even close to Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in terms of success. Thank you for the answers but I dont think that club is in the same category. Please answer only Fenerbahce or Galatasaray so I can understand the war between these two.

Ok, I'm being subjective and I say Fenerbahce :)
But the truth is they are equal. The two are the most supported teams in Turkey and you can't say one is bigger than the other. There's this rivalry between them, however I think debating over the issue of which one is bigger than the other gets one nowhere as it's a matter of personal opinion, and whatever people would say on this, it's going to be subjective.

UEFA - 1998 (?). I had been in Istanbul less than a month, when suddenly my previously calm and sedate neighbourhood explodes into chaos. Bullets were fired. There was much shouting and screaming. Car horns honking. In my third floor apartment, I hit the deck, and shimmy into my roommate's bedroom. My roommate is casually reading a book. When she looked down over her glasses at me on her floor, she chuckled, and explained the little thing called 'UEFA'. I'm Canadian - I had no idea sports fans could get this excited.
Galatasaray had just won the UEFA cup. I think Hakan Sukur, in his day, was an incredible player. Since then, I also think the torch has been passed to Fenerbahce.
There is no question, however, that passions are ignited either way, and loyal fans will defend their team to the end...

The biggest is Cimbombom (Galatasaray), there is no big! The biggest is Cimbombom, there is no big! :-) I'm a GS fan..
GS is the biggest but they have less money from Fenerbahçe..Fenerbahçe is rich so they can take more better players or they give money to the director of the match :-))
And Galatasaray always gets the Türkiye cup.Fenerbahçe can't ;-) And you know we took UEFA too ;-)

They are both overated. Besiktas is the better team but always overlooked. GS and FB are the National teams. They have been around since the beginning days of Ataturk or close to it. Good luck. I am married to a European. My heart is with American Football

Am a GS fan myself..
but I gotta be honest with ya...theyre both historical..rich..improtant and big :D
