You will have an almost immpossible time doing brown highlight over red hair at this point, especially if it is dark red. Color doesn't lift color, so they would have to use bleach to lift out the red, and at that point, it will turn orange. My suggestion is leave it for a week or two then it will have lifted a bit anyhow, then go over it with a nuetral brown color. Good Luck.

NO MORE CHEMICALS!!!
To calm it down try head & shoulders shampoo it will strip the brightness out within 3 washes anyway even if u leave it the colour will come out around 2 weeks depending on much u wash ur hair because red doesnt stay as well unless u r using a particular red shampoo that helps it stay in :)

The problem with red color is that it fades and results in orange. I think you should take your friends' suggestion and add a little brown in it. If your hair naturally has some red tone in it, it will show one way or another.

Honey all ya gotta do is wash your hair a few days and the color will settle into a more muted tone. I wouldn't recommend adding more color to color unless you go to a professional..Next time you do your hair , try to go one shade lighter and if you already have blonde highlights , be easy with the red tones . Red tones are more prominenet on blond highlight /gray hair etc... Hope this helps..

Go to a professional colorist and they will apply a "drabber". This tones down the existing color. Or wash it with a clarifying shampoo daily for about a week. Don't apply another color right away, especially a brown....this could turn your hair a lovely shade of green!

Good Luck!

i would listen to your friend too - but i would have a pro do the brown highlights because a lot of people have more red in their hair than they think and dying it often brings it out (the lady who does my hair told me :))

Red hair color fades fast on it's own... it will actually fade enough that you might really like it... I wouldn't do the brown, it's wasting time and more money... let it go naturally...

red color molecules are the largest so it will fade faster than any other color. if you had to mess up a color by going too dark , this is the perfect 'mistake'.
give it a week. it will fade.
