You can actually use several kinds of beans when you make chili. Kidney are most often used because they retain a firmness to them. But you can also add several kinds of beans in the same pot. My mom has a turkey chili recipe that calls for garbanzos (chick peas), kidney beans, and a few other types of beans.

Kidney peas or kidney beans? I've never heard of kidney peas but.. as for the "kidney beans" I use those all the time!

all i do with mine is separate the good beans from the bad... ( you will find rocks and stuff in them so remove all those) I usually do 1/2 lb a week.. I put 1/2 of dried beans 1/4 of an onion 2 garlic cloves fresh water and some salt.. let them cook for a few hours until Tender.. once they are cooled I transfer them into a tupperware and refrefridgerate them for when ever i want to make re fried beans.. to make refried beans heat up some oil or lard until hot then put some cooked bean in the pan and heat till it boils them smash them taste for salt and enjoy.. PS im Mexican so i eat beans a few times a week! LOL o yeah another thing I do with the beans after there cooked I make chili beans.. there really good after the beans are cooked on the side brown some ground beef with more onion, tomato, and garlic once its brown add in one lb of chorizo cook for another 10 min then mix it with the bean in the crock pot to keep warm.. serve with cheese or put it on top of a burger, hot dog or french fries!!

Yes, any canned beans are great in chili. Just drain and rinse off the thick liquid they are packed in. You can use a few different kinds of beans in beef or chicken chili, or make a vegetarian version with many varieties of canned beans, zucchini, peppers, onions and frozen corn kernels, as well as canned diced tomatoes. I like black beans, garbanzos and dark red kidney beans in my veggie chili, with plenty of chipotle chili powder and cumin for spice. Another quick tip is to look for beans that are low in sodium so that you can control the level of salt in your chili. Goya makes all of their canned beans available in a low sodium variety.

I use either kidney or chili beans whichever I have on hand at the time, and they both taste great. You will not know til you try, different tastes for different palates.

I use kidney beans in my chili, it makes it more hearty and robust, plus the texture is firmer. Tastes great!!!
