you can treat it the same way a hospital would. go to the drug store and get one of those metal finger splints with the foam in it. keep it elevated if there is swelling. put ice on it for a few days. take a pain reliever if it hurts too much. wear that for a few weeks.

Treating it yourself isn't the best idea because if any of the bones are not aligned correctly it won't heal properly causing problems later on. I would conisder getting it x-rayed. All they will do is be sure things are in line and put a splint on it. You can get a finger splint at the drug store but it would be better if you let the doc be sure things are in line and be sure that it really is a broken finger and not something else.

Get some white bandage and medical tape. Aline your finger in a straight position or how your finger naturally bends. Secondly get the biggest finger which is next to it annd place the finger in the same position as the other. Put a tad bit of cotton wool between and wrap your 2 fingers together starting at the bottom going up to the top and down to the bottom again. Tape Together. Voila
If punctured see a doctor or if it won't go straight

My first question is this...how do you KNOW its broken? From a paramedic standpoint, we can only assume its broken and splint accordingly, however we take all patients to the ER for an evaluation. You really should get it checked, and quit trying to play doctor on yourself, (please don't be offended by that statement) and they can fix it if necessary. If it is broken and you splint it wrongly, you can do more damage than good. Remember there are nerves in there as well and should it not heal correctly you can suffer nerve damage too. Just get it checked, and then you know everything will be fine.

As long as it is not out of alignment, you can just splint it with or tape it to the next finger to keep from bending it. Splint for 2 weeks.

as long as it doesn't need reset then you can just get the metal finger splints and wear it for about 4 to 6 weeks, but if it is out of allignment you will have to go to a doctor and get it reset.

It's not advisable for you to attempt to treat your own broken finger. Let the hospital deal with it for you, they have the expertise which you presumably don't, otherwise you wouldn't have had to ask the question.

As long as it is not displaced, get a finger splint. I think you can get one from a pharmacy. otherwise use a tongue depressor, or popsicle tick and buddy tape it to thie finger next to it and DON"T USE IT
