I have written for doxy for patients - As I recall maybe 100mg two times a day for 7 days. It's good for patient compliance (if they can't remember to take 4 pills a day, for ex.) and it's not bad for infections resistant to penicillins.

I believe you want to be aware of photo sensitivity as a side effect; wear sunglasses. Also, if you get severe diarrhea, discontinue.

Warning - if you feel you have a tooth infection and you just have some meds lying around in your mom's medicine cabinet and figure you can save some money by taking them,.... DON'T! they might be expired and then your'e just making the bacteria stronger cuz it's only paritally effective. Also, you need to go to a dentist anyway to have the tooth assessed, or the infection is going to keep coming back, becuase an antibiotic will "knock down" the infection but it will always return w/o dental treatment.

Yes it probably is used for tooth infections. If you are on it or have any doubt about using it for a tooth infection then this is something to discuss with your dentist. Doxycycline is a good antibiotic that works well for a lot of different infections.

doxycyc is useful only in dental infections that involves teeth pockets which are the spaces between teeth and the gums these spaces are enlarged due to infection . this antibiotic is used because it is concentrated in these pockets .
