I work at a Wastewater Treatment Facility. We have a humid warm building that is FULL of spiders, I mean, there is hundreds of them. There are also a lot of "filter flies" in this building which give the spiders lots of food. Because the water in the building is being released to a river, I need an environmentally safe way to kill the spiders.

We have a UV zapper for the flies and there are pigeons that come into the building once and a while. Still too many spiders to kill one at a time.

The best way to get rid of spiders is to prevent them from coming into your home. Trim all shrubs and hedges away from touching your house. If you have a brick home, treat all weep holes. Treat around all doors, windows, eves, cracks and crevices. Caulk all cracks and crevices, doors and windows. Purchase one of those duster type things and weep away all webs.

One of the reasons you might have spiders is because spiders eat insects. Treat your home for other insects regularly and you should have less spiders. However, lady bug beetles also eat other insects. You could get some lady bugs but they can also become a nuisance

Plug-in ultrasonic devidecs could also be helpful though there are not very encouraging reports about them. However,if these were realy inefficient they would have disappeared from the market by now. They are still selling.

Insect glue boards work great. Place these glue boards in areas that spiders are there. Place them behind toilets, under sinks in bathrooms and kitchens. Behind refrigerators, washer and drier, hot water heater and also in attics. You may also place them inside your garage on each side of the garage door.

One other thing. Once spiders are in your home, a good vacuum clearner with a hose attachement will work wonders.

This should help you get rid of most of the spiders in and around your home. You will probably never rid you house of all spiders but at least you should be able to keep the population down somewhat

If you do not have a silly fear of our Arachnid friends you can use two methods. Strong perfume will confuse them and they will eventually leave. Or two use a large jar and catch them one by one and release then away outside. These poor misunderstood creatures are our best friends as they kill and eat many flies that carry diseases. They are harmless even if one should bite. We have so few deadly poisonous Spiders that you are really quite safe. They have probably grown a little because of the good food supply.Don't kill them they mean no harm and do't spray then directly just use a cloth and string. Tye a little piece of the cloth into the string, then using a bulletin board tack hang the string and cloth from the wall. make as many as you can. soak then with perfume first then watch them freak out. They really don't deserve this sort of treatment, they protect us from a lot of transmit able diseases. try the other method first, use a chop stick or long pencil. If fear should hit go outside and get some air, try again you can do it and then you will laugh at yourself later. have fun Good luck-Spiders.

The existence of spiders is an indicator of other problems, and are never a problem of themselves. Spiders are beneficial creatures, and should be welcomed as such. Worry more about the flies! The spiders are there to help you rid the area of flies.

I believe in inviting any and all creatures that feed on bugs. These should include carnivorous birds such as martins, bats, preying mantises (this is a good bug!), lizards, toads and frogs.

work on the food source first: Install a few ultra violet fly kilers - you know the type that you really HEAR them die!

Long term, no food, no spiders.

You may have to wait a little time for this to work though.

why not put out sticky traps all over. They make them for mice, but they work for spiders too. Good luck.
If all else fails, smash them, LOL
