No, it's not. But even if people who quit do gain weight, they still look better because their skin looks ten times as healthier and their teeth ten times as clean.

NO it is not a scientific fact, however it is someone what of an instict, or replacment if you will. Anyone that is trying to give up any habit likes to replace it with another habit be it food, gum chewing etc. Most people replace it with eating thus, that is how the weight is gained. It is just common because it is the hand/mouth fixation. I brushed my teeth when i quite, sad enough I am smoking again. But, the brushing the teeth at the time helped me overcome my cravings plus I had a minty fresh breath.

Hi,
Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn't addicted!
Here's what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.
I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it's regularly $53 for 10 days)!!
I don't know if they still have that deal, but it's worth a try.

no, the reason why people may gain weight after quiting smoking is because they are bored and have nothing to do with their hands or mouth. there is no scientific fact stating that you must gain weight when you quit smoking. Good luck!!

No, it is not a scientific fact.
There may be some evidence to support this, but that does not make it a fact, by any means.
I am not sure there is such a thing as "scientific fact", which would surely mean indisputable. As far as I am aware, everything is disputable to a certain degree.

That's non-sense. It's because they replace one bad habit with another bad habit, and that's having too much to eat. Smoking does'nt make you lose weight. If it did there would'nt be any fat smokers.

Most people gain weight simply because they're so used to having a cigarette in their mouths that when there is no cigarette they resort to food.
