Hmmm, well I am not a medical person but if someone told me I needed my bowel removing because of Colitis I would certainly ask for a second opinion. I've had bouts of Colitis and other bowel disorders over the years and had several operations but no one has ever told me I needed my bowel removing. I turned to alternative medicines - acupunture and cranial oesteopathy - and improved my condition considerably. It sounds way too drastic and more like something they would do if there was Cancer.

Good luck!

My friend had her bowell removed, it was so deseased she had no alternative that was fifteen months ago very bad operation to get over but she made it and in two weeks time she goes in for her third operation which will finalise the reversal. She was told at the time that a cancer could grow if she did not have the bowell removed the infection was too bad to clear up with antibiotics. She has been marvellous during the whole of her "illness" she calls it her "Harrods" bag and makes jokes about it - she was only 43 at the start of it all, but is a picture of health now.

I would get a second opinion before a major surgery like that...But if the disease has reach an advanced state then removal of the colon may be necessary....
