I keep asking myself why do people think pit bulls are so bad?

In england pit bulls were known as butchers dogs and used to help in the butcher in tthe killing of cattle. They would grab a hold of the ring in the nosie, thatwas what they were used for, and hold tight till the butcher could cut the throat. They were also used for bull baiting and were turn to dog fighter after bull baiting was out lawed. They have a better rating than most "family dogs by the arm. temperment testing soc. 5they rate at a 95 % better that labs and golden retevers. Poodles rate a 50% and cocker spanils are reported by animal works, groomers, vets,dog walkers and animalcontrol officers, to be the worst biters. If there are more than one bad dog attack in one day and 1 was by a pit you will not hear about the others. To make things worst most people have no idea what a pit looks like.

...And humans have the nerve to make that Breed Lesgislation Law in Canada...saying that all pit bulls and pit bull type dogs must be put down or the owner must leave the area...

They did better than most family dogs. They beat a collie which most people think the best family dog . There as been three president who owned pit bulls while in office, Helen Keller,Michael J. Fox, Alicea Silverstone, JFK Jr. Steve Erwin, Fred Aster, jack demspedy, Gen. Patton, he owned two, Thomas Edison are among the people who own pits. The most decorated
army dog was Srg. Stubby, a pit mix who saved the 25 men of his unit from a gas attack. There is over 5 million pet pits in this country, if they are so aggressive why were their only 4 deaths by pit attack last year and two of those were by police dog protecting their partners. People stop believing every thing the media says and do some homework and find out just what a great breed pit bulls are.

People think pit bulls are bad because some pit bull owners WANT people to think they are bad dogs. They think that a mean dog is a better watch dog. ( Not true!) If a pit bull type dog is raised with a family, they make excellent dogs. We had one when my grandson was little and he could do ANYTHING to that dog and the dog would just lay there and wag his tail. But I have met some pit bulls that are tied up in the back yard and never get to be with people --those I would not trust.

I work in people's yards and the two serious dog bites that I have gotten were not from pit bulls --they were breeds that are usually friendly, family dogs!

And don't even get me started about people who think it is all right to "fight" their dogs.

Being bred for pit fighting, they are very powerful dogs with a high pain tolerance and they look mean. Consequently, they are favored by people who want the world to think they are tough because they have a tough dog. These people are the worst dog owners as they usually don't care much for the dog, only the image the dog gives them.

Pits can be wonderful dogs when not mistreated and poorly trained by some idiot who thinks he needs a vicious dog to feel good about himself.

Sorry but I must correct you GothicNightQueen(nice handle btw), Genl. Patton's dog was a Bull Terrier, a closely related breed, but not a Pitbull or American Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Pit bulls were bred in Germany to go on the battle front and protect the solidiers and wipe out some of the offenders. When they became popular people began to use them for bad things like fighting, those people didnt take care of there dogs and they hurt people. It is the owner not the breed i have met some of the sweetest pit bulls and some very mean ones. It is all about perspective.

People keep thinking pit bulls are so bad because pit bulls keep attacking people!!!!!!!! Where have you been!!!!! A one year old female pit attacked my friend's 5 year old daughter and ripped her face off. The child lived about a half an hour, just long enough to get to a hospital. Pit bulls should be outlawed everywhere. They are just about as predictable as a "pet shark".
