Any parent who LETS thier child smoke shouldn't have children! Not only are the parents hurting themselves they are hurting thier child! people DIE from the effects of smoking! My father died when i was 11 years old! too young for a child to be fatherless. CHILDREN SHOULD NEVER SMOKE, EVEN IF THIER PARENTS ARE DUMB AND LET THEM! They should have thier children taken away if they let them smoke, that is abuse.

NO! it is not all right for a child to start smoking. Any adult that would allow a child to start smoking would have to be A BRICK SHY OF A FULL LOAD. Smoking is not good for anyone, let alone a child. There are so many illinesses that can be caused by smoking. I would hope the parents might try to make some effort to explain that. (I know what parents say to kids most of the time goes in one ear and out the other tho)
Most parents would be upset that their child is smoking, but hitting them? It is up to the parents to decide how to discipline their child. I would hope that they would try talking to them first.

I smoke. All I have told my kids is about how horrible and addictive smoking is. I try very hard to quit and I let them know what a struggle this is and how weak I feel very time I give in to a cigarette. I would never give them permission to smoke. I also would not punish them for doing so. After all, I have set some kind of example here although not a good one. To hit a child when you told the child that he or she could smoke would certainly be hypocritical and not the right approach.

It is not right for any one to smoke. And for an adult to say that a child can smoke is wrong. Why would a parent allow something that was harmful happen to their children? And I believe it is totally disrespectful to smoke in front of your parents, especially if they have asked you not to. My 16 year old son smokes, I totally disapprove and he knows it, and if I ever saw him smoke, I would take the cigarette and break it. I can not prevent him from smoking, but can educate him on the effects. His choice is his choice...free will. But with every choice there is a consequence, whether it be a positive or negative one. And about the parent hitting...it is never a good idea to hit anyone.

umm obviously you want to know if they are gonna beat ya, or say it's okay. Well it really depends on if the parents smoke themselves...also how old the child is. Parents just like anyone else can get in alot of trouble by buying cigarettes for a minor. Honestly im a parent and i wouldn't let my child do that in front of me until they are of age.

What kind of a stupid question is this? First off, parents should never hit their kids! Next, no responsible parent would ever let their kids smoke. Ever !
Children that smoke usually come from families that smoke.
My Dad smoked when I was growing up. Every morning while I slept, I could smell cigarette smoke thru the air vents to my room from wherever he smoked in the house. I hated that!
I do not smoke now. I still hate it. Smoking shortens your life by 20 to 30 years. Second-hand smoke is bad, also.
Parents should teach kids not to smoke. Smoking is unacceptable and parents should never allow it anytime.
If you lived in my house and you took up smoking, I'd tell you to wait till you are old enough to move out if you want to smoke. Smoke in your own house, not mine!

It is never ok for a parent to OK smoking since the children shouldn't even be thinking of it. If the parent is a smoker then they are more suseptible to allowing their child to smoke when they are teenagers such as sixteen.

But to answer your question, no it is not ok.

It is illegal for children to purchase cigarettes, and is totally irresponsible for a parent to supply them.
The parent should realize the long term effects smoking can have on health.
No they should'nt hit them, but what they need to do is sit them down and explain the implications that smoking can cause.

Let me guess, you joined yahoo to ask really dumb questions and make people mad...it doesn't make us mad, we just consider the source.

ANYONE who smokes is an idiot. It is stupid.....in 2006 we know it causes cancer, not only to the smoker, but to other people. My good friend just died of lung disease and her son was smoking at the funeral.

I understand addiction, but really.....STUPID.

Secondly.....It is against the law for anyone under 18 to smoke. So the child can be cited with a misdeameanor, as can the parents and anyone else who provides them with the means.

If the child is young enough, they could be removed for neglect and endangerment.
