Do not try to wash your bird. That would be cruel. Teach the bird to come to you, start the shower before hand, and take the bird into the shower. a nice lite, lukewarm one... my birds sit on the shower curtain rod and puff up and prune themselves. You see a bird, any bird, cannot be "washed" - they have "oil" glands on the tips of certain feathers, they only "splash" themselves and then work the water down to the oil gland and clean themselves. You could make your bird very sick and it could die, if you wash it. One a nice warm day, with a "spray" bottle, on the softest spray, you can see if your bird likes a few little quirks of that! If not, buy a large bird bath that clips on the cage and let your bird try that. Your bird will even use his drinking water to clean himself, maybe you just haven't seem him do that. Go to the library and learn more about how to take care of your pet, HIS life depends on it...

About the screaming... If my bird gets out of hand and nothing I do seems to please him, I cover his cage for 10 minutes to let him calm down. It needs to be mostly dark or it doesn't seem to work so make it a blanket. I have had great luck with this.
He really hates it when we are not at home so I play music Cd's, leave the radio on with soothing music ( the harder stuff only aggravates him) or leave the TV on but try to avoid anything with birds on it or he will start up again. Another thing that keeps him entertained is a Cd that is made just for birds. All it has on it are songs that someone is whistling to.
Give these things a try and good luck.

The reason why your Bird is screaming is he is wondering where the other birds he heard are! He is trying to call them to where he is.
My mom raises Cockatiels now for 15 years and our 2 first Cockatiels are great great great great ect. grandparents and now the momma bird is blind and the daddy is more annoying so my mom split them into different cages. when the daddy bird can't see his wifey he screams and screams until he sees her and then he is fine.
Your bird needs a friend or not to hear other birds that he can't see.
As far as bathing your tiel I recommend getting a spray bottle with mist and make sure the temp in the house isn't too cold. Just think if you just come out of the shower and the house is too cold you shiver and get cold...well same goes for the little dude.
Also put a bird bath into the cage and he'll just bath himself.
My brother used to let one of the birds go itno the shower with him...it was so funny to see the bird come out after words perched up on his head soaking wet and of course my Mom freaked out and used a hair dryer to dry off the birdie

A fine spray or mister is all that you need with water at room temperature. Make sure the room is nice and warm so that he does not catch a chill.
Sometimes they will use a bath or bowl of water for a wash. do not use any soap or chemicals in the water as it may drink it.
Only do this once or twice a week.
Remember that they usually like a dust bath in the wild and only ocasionally get wet from rain.

Give him lots of fly time or if wings are clipped at least time out of his cage to explore. Don't move his cage around alot, that does stress them out and they might start feather plucking. Most of all-Don't wash him! Mist him with a spray, it may induce bathing, but let him do it, put a shallow charger or large dinner plate, one that is deep enough to fill where it will be up to his ankle. Let him flutter on his own. Also you can go get some branch with lots of leaves on it, [make sure no pesticides used on it] and hang the branch in his cage and spray it with water and he will fluff all up and rub on it. But if you use a bird shampoo, he could get to dry and itchy! Plain water is all he needs. Good luck.

theres a few things u can do. u can put a little bird bath in his cage. (always use lukewarm water, never to cold or hot) or u can get a warm wash cloth and wipe him down. though i cant really think y u would need to give him a bath this is what u should do. birds clean themselves(which is called preening). if he's all gross and has stuff allover him and this is y u want to wash him take him to the vet immediately. hope that works for u.

First off never use soap only water and they will bath themselves. Always use room temperature water. There are a couple of ways you could do it. You could use a spray bottle and spray him. Make sure its on a mist. You could put water in a dish and let him do it himself. Or you could let water run from the faucet at a low speed and have a way for him to get to it. Some birds tend to like running water.

I use a medium plastic tub and fill it with water where the bird is not covered. I use warm water and splash the water to get my bird interested. Birds tend to learn behaviors from their owners. They love the bath and it is soothing to them and good for their feathers. The plucking must be curbed asap. Make a lot of toys and foraging toys so that they will be rewarded for their effort. I sometimes put a treat in a small piece of paper and twist the ends. Ferret balls are entertaining. Be thoughtful on your choices for safety. I put small boxes around his cage with treats inside. I drill holes in building blocks and string them. You can buy toys if you choose. Rotate toys often. Good luck and enjoy that bird.

You don't need to wash your cockatiel per se, but you can either take him into the shower with you, mist him with slightly warm water out of a spray bottle, or see if he'll take a "bath" in a pie plate filled with water. The biggest benefit is that it keeps the dander down.

Cockatiels LOVE baths. Leave a shallow bowl of water out like on top of your birds cage, or elsewhere where the bird can at his leisure, go up to the bowl when he is out of his cage. He will usually bathe himself. However, my cockatiels love the water spray mister bottles and love me to spray them gently until they are soak and wet, (they have their wings spread out the whole time). And when you bird is on your shoulder, he is not pulling out his feathers, he is "preening" himself, or cleaning his feather, often times old feathers he may pull out, but this means he feels happy and content on your shoulder and starts to spruce himself up a bit.
