The term or concept of "sustainable development" generally refers to any commercial business (usually a new business) or building project that doesn't do damage to either the environment or climate i.e. reduced emissions. Which means that its a business which will be sustainable in the long term because it doesnt harm people or the planet.

**Sadly though, sustainable development is abit of a trendy buzz word at the moment, and not many companies or organisations know how to make it become a reality.

**Proving your product or service or building is really a sustainable development is another ball game entirely I suspect.

**An example of a sustainable development might be methane gas collection from rubbish tips and piped to peoples homes for cooking or heating. This would probably come under the concept of a sustainable development.

Sustainable development is a lie. Its literal meaning is development that continues to grow at an equal rate, like keeping your foot on the accelerator of your car at a certain point so that you gradually go faster and faster. However, the term sustainability has been associated with environmentalism, and has been hijacked by the capitalist, growth culture that we live in, to pretend that what's being developed is enviromentally friendly when all sustainable development really is, is faster and faster development, i.e faster environmental destruction.

This refers to regeneration of areas where developers want to create new communities. It involves building an infrastructure that can cope with growth and development in a potentially high growth area - particularly reclaimed land such as around Stratford for the Olympics. The danger with the Olympics is that you could end up with an area that has nothing left after the Olympics, so the infrastructure needs to built with future jobs and life in mind.

Being a sustainable consultant The answers you received all are a little bit right. I would say XmadgalX has the best answer but left off "leaving an ecologically sound environment for the future".
I don't know what Stef is talking about other than she is just a ***** with problems.
