I just bought a new lcd hdtv. I have a couple of questions.
1. I don't have an hd reciever from directv, because the hd dvr combo is too much $ right now, but i thought it would look better, not as grainy, any ideas how to fix it?
2. What if i just got the hd reciever AND the dvr, is it possible to switch back and forth?

If you are watching analog TV, the picture will look "grainy"; it was always there in the picture, but older TVs did not have enough resolution to show it. However, the ordinary picture from DirecTV should not look grainy, as it is digital. What is the pixel size of your TV? If it is 1280x720, you may be sitting too close and are seeing individual pixels. This is called the "screen door" effect, as it looks like you are viewing the picture through a window screen. The pattern is regular, not random. If this is what's happening, then don't sit so close. This is an advantage of the new 1080p sets: more pixels on the screen mean they are less visible.

If you get the receiver AND the DVR, you will need two component inputs, two HDMI inputs, or one of each on your TV set to switch between them. Alternatively, you can get an A/V receiver with component or HDMI switching to select the receiver or DVR.

It would look a little grainy. To take advantage of the HDTV LCD you will need either HD reciever or HD-DVD player. Go get an Xbox360 and it's HD-DVD attachment

the explanation why maximum liquid crystal show or Plasma HDTV look grainy even somewhat blurry is by using the fact to verify that the television's to look as reliable and that they are meant to, the channel you're observing could desire to broadcast in extreme Definition. only as a results of fact your television is an HDTV does no longer recommend that each and every of the channels would be in HD. in case you have cable and you flow to a HD channel and your television has been outfitted with each and every of the HD factors then the image high quality would be great. yet once you're on a non HD channel and your television is setup for HD then the image high quality would be terrible as a results of fact your television is setup for HD channels and not for the huge-unfold channels....i'm hoping I didnt confuse you.....its style of complicated.
