Image:
The name you choose says as much about you as it does about your dog. It shows how you view your dog and your relationship with it. Some names can cause people to judge a dog and react positively or negatively/fearfully when meeting it. Depending on whether the dog is a pet, therapy dog, search & rescue dog, tracking dog or any other dog that works with the public, it is important to use a name that conveys the proper image. Happy searching!

Popularity:
The most popular dog name in North America is Sam, Sammie or Samantha (which means "listener"). The second most popular is Max, Maxie, Maxwell or Maxine (which means "the greatest" in Latin). Third is Lady, followed by Bear, Maggie, Buddy, Tasha, Chelsea (or Chelsie), Holly and Shasta. Other very popular names are Brandy, Ginger and Taffy.

How about a Scottish name ... this is a good site to choose from:
http://www.cat-dog-names.com/scottish-dog-names.html

If you don't like any of those then there are several more pages of names to select from.

The site recommends that when choosing:
- Make a short-list of preferred names.
- Keep it simple, as possible.
- A couple of syllable names are best.
- Try to choose a name that is easily recognized.
- Is the name easy to call out?
- Base the name on how your pet acts!
- Names shouldn't sound like standard instructions˙ (eg. Sit, stay ..etc.)
- Try it out. When you find a name you like, give it a test run for a few day.
- If it feels natural, keep it! Otherwise, try the next name on your list.

I quite like the name Chara.
(there's Fearchara on the website meaning dear one - but I didn't like the Fear bit at the beginning)

I've always liked names such Hugo,Percy and Oscar for dogs! In dogs I prefer names that are actual names-not like Fluffy or Snuggles which seem ridiculous to me! Jasmine is a nice name-mate of mine has a golden lab called that. My own dog is called Frodo! :) This might sound stupid but sometimes a dog actually looks a bit like a name! Basically call it something you wont be embarrassed to yell across a field! :)
