I'm baffled as to the softness of politicians toward law breakers. These illegal immigrants are exactly the same as a person breaking into my home that is from the poor side of town and I must let him stay in my home and help him along. Hey, the person works hard so I should let him stay...right? NOT!!!! This is bs and if I broke any law, no matter what it was...I'd be prosecuted and fined....there should be no exceptions for these lawbreakers either. Join the rest of the immigrants from around the world and come across the border LEGALLY!

Democrats see amnesty as a means of collecting voters. Immigrants generally vote as a democratic block. Anything that gets more votes and helps them stay in power is attractive to democrats.
Republicans see amnesty as a means of ensuring cheap labor for business. If the people who fund their campaigns tell them that illegal immigrants play an important economic role in their business then, hey, you can't touch that.
Neither of them are interested in doing what's right for the country. Neither of them are paying attention to the agenda Mexico plays in this political game. Mexico is encouraging its citizens to enter the USA illegally. As far as Mexico is concerned the USA illegally conquered parts of Mexico and now Mexico is reconquering it back. Mexico claims they have a right to be here.

Although I agree with what everyone is saying, I don't think it's quite as simple as that. I think that what Menendez's supporters (the now Senator for NJ, unfortunately) say is true. This country, at this point, is extremely dependent on cheap labor. It's how the rich get richer.....which supports Republicans much more than Democrats, typically.
I agree completely that if someone comes into this country....illegally, and then is basically told....oh, it's ok, then we are basically telling them that we aren't serious and that there is no need to pay attention to any of our other rules.
But I don't think it's just for votes, or just to cater to what some want. I agree with Kacky that the people that hire them are also the problem, to a point.
If we could get of immigrant workers....and unions, that the same time. Then that would help. But to just get rid of immigrant workers, that shuts down a LOT of small business because they can't compete with union pay.
I completely agree that it was a horrible decision. But i think that's why they did it.

The Democrats want potential Dem voters, and the Republicans want a pool of cheap labor, thus pleasing Big Business and breaking unionized labor once and for all.
No politician REALLY wants to give this issue anything more than lip service because a strong viewpoint on either side is the Kiss Of Death for a career in politics.

You're right. It's frustrating and disgusting.
They makes tons of laws for us, the citizens, to follow but look the other way when we are being INVADED by foreign nationals.
It's insane.
The number one priority of the U.S. government is to protect the U.S. citizen and it is NOT doing its job.
