Since everyone is different, I think the time is right when you feel it's right for you & your family. Some people burn out too quickly & others would like it year round. It's a suit yourself type of thing. Whatever makes you happiest!

Anytime your good and ready - but if using a live tree, I would not put it up more than a couple of weeks before, that is why I now have a artificial tree, because I like to decorate right after Thanksgiving - Merry Christmas

This I have a real problem with. I think everyone over does Christmas to soon. I think every month should have it's own celebration. And the stores are all to serious about Christmas. Christmas should be celebrated after Thanksgiving. Thats what I do. I don't worry about it till then.
I decorate for Christmas the last week of Nov. or the first week of Dec. and take my decorations down after the 1st of Jan.
I believe thats long enough.

Actually the day after the american thanksgiving is too commercialised, so maybe hold back. Choose family and friends over people, and celebrate Buy Nothing Day by buying nothing. Go here then check the blog for info http://www.myspace.com/riotscotland
Best time is a week or so into december, maybe the 6th or 7th. Traditionally, people in the UK have put christmas decorations up 12 days before christmas and back down 12 days after christmas.... or so my gf thinks.

Whenever you want to, really. For me, I will start putting up the tree and other decor next week. I will turn on the lights on Thanksgiving night.

My family decorates the weekend of Thanksgiving, but it's an ongoing project for the entire season, new things coming in and being displayed. It's really up to you and when the spirit hits you.
