What are you doing leaving a way in open it may not be a bird next time but a thief?

try to encourage it to leave by opened doors and Windows but a towel can be thrown over it and then you can escort it out and open up the towel to release the bird. That is the safest for you to not get pecked and to keep the bird from flying until you have it outside where you want it to be.

I had that happen to me once and it landed on top of the kitchen cabinets, scared to death. I opened the front door (lived in a small trailer) and sat on the couch and didn't move for like forever. Once it calmed down it started flying around and seemed to sense the fresh air and finally flew out the door.
