Don't any of you people have control over your life? A free being determines what comes into and out of ones life. Why should it bother you what people say even if it true or not true. Your worst enemy can be your best 'guru'. Your 'reaction' is your choice unless you are a robot.

Stick and stones can break your bones but words (name calling) can break your will. Words cut deeper than the skin. bruises can heal broken bones can heal but a broken spirit needs Therapy. The way the old saying go's is sticks & stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me! Well that is about as far from the truth as you can get. Words can make or break a person's will, words can convience a person they are worthless so why try? Words are a dangerous sword!

That expression started out to convince kids that "names will never hurt them", which is a bunch of baloney. When you're a kid and other kids are calling you fatso or four eyes or stupid or zit face, names sure as hell do hurt. At some point the kid either decides to let that cruelty damage their self esteem forever or realize the kids calling names are the ones with the real flaws and pity those kids and just move on.

Sticks and Stone can break your bones, but words will hurt a whole lot more!

Really, you need to deflect the hurtful and hateful words, with humor and professionalism if someone say to you "You're stupid", say "Thank you for pointing that out, I am currently taking college course", or "You're fat!", say "Thank you sir, I need to lose a few pounds."
That way, YOU are controlling the situtation, not them.

Your interrupting this expression backwards! It means, that if "name calling" leads YOU into a fight, that "stick and stones can break your bones". In-other-words - consider who is do the name calling, and ignore, don't confront. Do you understand now.
