Syrup and yogurt is a good mix especially if you make your own yogurt. We like smoothies in the summer. I never use a recipe. I just pull out the blender and pour in a cup of yogurt. I start tossing in whatever fruit I have on hand. I sweeten with a little honey and thin it with a little milk if necessary. If you like icy smoothies, freeze some milk in an ice cube tray and drop in a few cubes. I fried chicken with a crushed Ritz cracker coating when I realized I was out of flour. Now I use that coating deliberately on occasion. It's pretty good on breaded pork chops too. After I'd done this a couple of times, I found a recipe in an old cookbook. So, I guess it wasn't all that original. Way back when I was in junior high school, my best friend and I fried up some breaded dill pickle slices and pickled beets. They were pretty terrible as I remember but neither of us would admit it at the time.

I made a wicked chicken marinade, which always goes down a treat at BBQ's. Pour about a quarter inch of sugar into a pan, then cover with water to the same level. Put over heat, BUT, DO NOT STIR. The sugar will coat the spoon and crystallize. Just swirl the saucepan until all of the sugar has dissolved, then remove from the heat. Now add a good Glug of BBQ sauce and Soy Sauce. Then add Garlic And Ginger. How much you add is up to you. Allow to cool then pour over cubed chicken. Leave for 24 hours, and then Skewer up. Whilst cooking (Be it frying, grilling or BBQing) Pour over the marinade for a Sweet, Sticky Glaze. Perfect in pitta with salad. Enjoy

I often mix up things with pasta for my kids Have you tried mince and pasta. Cook your mince an add a vegetable cube with oregano & bisto granules plus(Garlic, onion & chilli if you want) then cook your pasta, I like to put a vegetable cube in with the pasta when its cooking too as it gives it more taste, when they're both cooked drain the pasta & mix them both together then transfer into an oven proof dish grate some cheese & crunch some crisps(Yes crisps) onto the top and put into the oven until the cheese melts and the crisps are golden. The kids love it

Yes, in our house we call it a "special". We are Vegetarians and its exciting to mix flavours for pasta sauce's and for homemade soup etc. Don't be afraid to just put things in a pan and experiment. Most people have a reasonable grasp of what flavour go together and what flavours don't!
We also do the same with Pizza, sometimes with up to 8 types of Cheese and all sorts of veg' and spices added.

All the time. And they turn out great. That's how you learn. In order to develop something new, you have to keep at it. It's all in the taste buds. I hate celery in my tuna salad,so came up with the idea of using Romain lettuce, cut into very thin strips after the centre has been remove. I then added some dill and shallots, chopped finely. Some mayo, salt, pepper, a little oil with red wine vinegar. I love it. So does everyone who has tried it. It's different and tastes delicious.

I usually cook without recipes. I guess you could say I've invented my own. I never write them down though. It's just a matter of looking at what I've got, thinking something will go together, and doing it. You can't really fail with things like pasta sauces.

My friend and I sat down once and created about 150 different pie recipes-from sweet to savoury, pastry top to mash potato topping. My favourites so far have been Jack Daniels and Venison pie on the savoury side and Morello cherry and Coke pie on the sweet side. You should always try and create something new and if it doesn't work then don't make it again or tweek it-making mistakes is part of the fun of food! Get creative.

all cooks invent all of the time or at least most of the time, afterall you have to cook with whats on hand & that can be quite challenging,i've made up more rice based recipes than i can remember, the best being a fried rice with chopped kidney.in all i'd give myself seven to eight out of ten, that isn't bad,is it ?
