I want a comprehensive definition for PCM.....and preferably some web sources for communication systems.

pulse-code modulation -
a system of radio transmission in which successive electromagnetic waves of short duration are sampled periodically, quantized, and transmitted by code.
Ex. The result was the rapid development of pulse-code modulation ... as a rival to amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency modulation (FM)

Pulse code modulation (PCM) is a digital scheme for transmitting analog data. The signals in PCM are binary; that is, there are only two possible states, represented by logic 1 (high) and logic 0 (low).
