This is a tough one! Little buggers are sneaky when it comes to stashing crayons and such. First, keep all tempting utensils well out of reach. Literally count the crayons and markers etc. so you know exactly how many they start out with and how many should be in the box when they are done with their projects. If one is missing, get on with the search.
At five years old, this child knows writing on walls is bad, and is encouraging the 3 year old. Make both of them accountable! Make them scrub the walls(whether the markings come off or not) They have to know there is a consequence for their actions.
Also, do yourself a favor and get only the "washable" crayons. They wipe right off(I know this from experience, I have a 2yr. old).
Do away with all other writing utensils until they have learned their lesson.
I wish you much luck!

I totally agree with the person who suggested making the children clean the walls themselves. What a great idea! The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is great and should do the trick for you. My 3 year old niece did that at my house all along the hallway. When I saw it, she looked up proudly and said in all sincerity, "Isn't it beautiful?" There was no way I could reprimand her after that. I did explain, though, that it was wrong. Also, get your children plenty of drawing paper and tell them you can hang their art work on the refrigerator, but cannot hang the wall on the refrigerator LOL! Good luck with your little artists!

I have the exact same problem but I have three of them at it....it drives me up the wall. One thing that curtailed it is making the walls in their playroom blackboard material so they have lots and lots of space to draw, one wall is black board the other wall is white board.
They do seem to like the mischief of drawing where they know they are not supposed to though and only time out and spanking seems to prevent that,if you are spanking unfortuantely it is not effective unless you catch them in the act.
Seeing as they are still wuite young the 3y/o has a while bfore he/she grows out of it so it is welll worth getting water based colours only and wipeable paint. Good luck its tiring work.

It's a subtraction thing. If you can't take the walls away, take the pencils/pens away and only allow them back when the children promise to use only paper, etc.

My 3 year old son does the same thing. I make him use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to clean his mess up. He doesnt do it as often anymore, but when he does, he knows he has to clean it up. The eraser works great. Doesn't take the paint off the walls.

Buy a roll of cheap lining paper and tell them that this is there giant drawing paper, pull out a good length and let them draw on it. They'll think its great having Giant paper to draw pictures on. Don't hang it (or anything else) on the walls as this makes the children think that it's ok to draw on walls. just lay it on the floor. Best of luck.

Your dentist is wrong. You don't have to wean at age three because of harm to her teeth. Many people assume that because it's true of milk in bottles or sippies, that it's true for breastfeeding too. Breastmilk doesn't promote the same growth of bacteria that causes caries. Also, the biggest risk to teeth is milk or juice in a bottle that the toddler carries around all day or falls asleep with - it doesn't work that way with nursing. You should practice good oral health, brush her teeth regularly, and don't leave her latched on all night long. But nursing at night itself doesn't damage teeth.

There is a paint that is specifically designed to wash off a little artist's artwork. I forget the name of it but it will save you in the long run. Other than that I would say punish them evertime they do and hide the utensils better and in a high spot.

Hand each of them a baby wipe and make them clean the walls. Have them do this for awhile each time they do it....eventually they will stop. I made my daughter clean her drawing off the wall when she was three, and she lost interest in doing it ever again.

Why not buy erasable crayons for now until they are old enough to understand that drawing on walls isn't an acceptable practice?
