Christmas originated from the Pagans. So, the more important question is this: Why do Christians celebrate a Pagan holiday? It is obviously not even when Christ was born. Not only that, Christmas has been commercialized so much that the meaning has been literally sucked from the usual joyous holiday.

Personally, I celebrate Christmas because it is the one time of year I can get together with my family without so much fighting breaking out, as is normality for my family.

Oh, and Paganism, or Neo-Paganism is not a "shady" religion. The Christians and Catolics have portrayed it as such over the course of time. I have met plenty of Pagans. They turned out to be my best and most loyal friends.

I don't quite understand some of these answers by the so called "pagans".
Christmas was and is still the time we celebrate the birth of Jesus. They may associate Santa Claus with something pagan, but I am doubting that.
We don't know when exactly that Christ was born , but we choose to celebrate Dec. 25 as His birthday. If Christ wasn't born, there would be no Christmas. If they don't believe in Christ, they should work on Dec. 25 becuse that day has no special meaning for them.
So, these "pagan originality" answers are reaching pretty far for those who doing so.
It's just another way that they try to "prove" the non existance of God.

And for the record, I do not believe there is such a thing as a true atheist. I have known 2 in my lifetime and they both have cried out to God for forgiveness on their deathbed........interesting, huh?
They also both used God's name in vain......why would you curse someone you have no belief in?

I'm an Atheist and I don't celebrate Christmas. I do enjoy the music and the atmosphere of the season. And of course the presents. It's simply a feel good time of year. I'd feel the same way if it were celebrated in May and we gave "Memorial Day" gifts. There is no god...never was...is not now...or ever will be. I do enjoy having the paid holidays too...I like getting paid for not working. I'm grateful to Christians for that!!! I get paid a lot of money for nothing!!! hehehe

Because it's a holiday that is ingrained into our culture as a whole, not just the religious ... why not?

The difference is in the reason we celebrate. I personally celebrate it purely as a reason to enjoy spending time with my family.

Why do christians celebrate christmas? It's a tradition that was stolen from the pagan religion, and was celebrated for many years before the birth of christ. And to that extent, Jesus was born in the springtime, not December 24th.

Goes both ways.

Because it's fun, traditional, and involved getting together with family and friends. It'd also be pretty difficult to avoid, at least in the United States.

The fact that you didn't understand that suggests that you have been listening to propaganda against atheists. I strongly suggest that you change your sources of information - it looks like someone has been lying to you.

because they don't care about its origin, which is not a Christian origin anyways.you should ask why Christians celebrate it when it has such a shady pagan origin.do your research about where Christmas came from and if you are a true christian you will not celebrate it again.

Good point. They say they don't believe then celebrate Christmas, attend Church weddings and christenings, and eat their Easter eggs. Talk about double standards

Hey, why do so many "Christians" celebrate Christmas when it is obviously pagan?
