No, you should put negatives into negatives sleeves-purchased at a photo supply store or online and kept in a dark place likea manila envelope or box.

NO they do not deed oxygen, put them in a glassine envelope or in special 'plastic' ones free of acids that damage the emulsion of the negative; avoid to store in en shoebox type because the cartons acids, as I said before will react with the silver in the emulsion and forms mostly silver sulphide that destroy the image.

One more tip. Do not store negatives where they will be exposed to heat above 75 degrees or so. They are made from gelatin and will melt. The colors will also change.
