I think for the parents, about 2-3 years is a good time, however, for the kids, especially if both are girls, it's not the age gap that determines how close they are, it's how they are taught to interact with each other very early on. My sister and I are almost 6 years apart, and we are best friends. Every situation is different.

I think a gap of about two to three years is about perfect, because a younger brother, or sister needs someone to teach them the ropes, but yet at an age where they can relate to each other effectively.

Depends. Boys? Girls? 2 years is about right for all. I am the oldest of 6. There are no rules. Its all about the parents and the "throw" of the genes. I am closer with my 2 youngest siblings. I am my mother and my brother is my dad. I have 2 sisters that don't relate to either. I knew 2 families that had 12 kids. Everyone was different. The important point is that all are loved the same.

I think close together is best. Although I was only able to have one child, I noted that my friends' children who were born close together seemed to be the happiest. This was particularly true if they were same-sex (although of course you can't exactly guarantee THAT). They always had someone to play with and talk to. It might be a little rough on the parents for the first couple of years, but after that, it definitely seems to me to be an advantage.

I have a 6 year old and a 3 month old. Its perfect because the elder child gets to help you out a lot and by helping, they are bonding with the bub.

18 months. I have 2 kids that are 18 months apart and I think that is perfect. They have someone to play with and they are growing up best friends also!
