Makes no sense why an omniscient and omnipotent god would whipe out the earth of 99.99% of its inhabitants with the excuse to "set people right" if subsequent generations go back to being amuck.

Actually, it makes perfect sense if you look at it as nothing more than a story meant to scare the superstitious herd, and keep them in line.

"God promised to never do it again..." what crap. This is a fail-safe, so that if the actual localized phenomenon never occurred again (and yes, it was local to the Euphrates region...check out the archaeological evidence), they can say, "See, god kept his word."

A) You're right.

B) Whatever gave you the idea that the Genesis story is anything but an explanation given by a non-scientific people for the phenomenon of the rainbow with a moral lesson tossed in for good measure?

C) The Noah story is taken almost in whole cloth from a portion of the Sumerian "Epic of Gilgamesh"; its serial numbers filed off and a moral lesson attached. The entire Epic, btw, is not only the first epic known from ancient times, but it's available today and makes for some crackin' good reading.

D) In future, when you're tempted to denigrate God and it comes to you that you're doing so because God seems to be portrayed as an idiot, stop and think. Isn't it far more likely that the person(s) making up the tale are the ones with the limited understanding? NOT The Lord of ALL!

Only noah was right before God . If not for Noah, I believe, God would have wiped off everyone (100%) from the face of the earth . (...that's what i think personally)

God has promised that he will never again punish this world with flood but he will punish this world with fire for sure only if the people go beyond the limitation of sins.
