I have no clue what to order to drink when I'm at a bar without making a fool of myself! I don't want complicated drinks, just plain old alcohol that is cheap and will do the job ;) Is beer the way to go? Do guys appreciate a beer drinking girl? Which beer is the way to go? If you just want the cheapest possible (and I do) do you just ask for a pot? What other drinks are non-pretensious that I could ask for? Thanks guys, my lack of bar know how is depressing me and your help will be greatly appreciated. And can anyone recommend any good bars in melb where i can test my new found bar confidence? Hey, if you can help me out I'll shout you a drink! (as I will know what to order)

Guys don't care either way whether or not a girl drinks beer or not. Honestly I can't stand the taste of beer and it takes a lot to get a nice buzz, the simplest and cheapest drinks to get are two part drinks as long as you're using well alcohol (well liquor is the cheapest stuff in the house) as long as you are mixing it with a flavor you like it'll work. Here's a short list of two part drinks that you can just say and they'll know to give you well liquor.

Screwdriver (Orange Juice and Vodka)
Vodka-Cran (Cranberry Juice and Vodka)
Whiskey-Sour (Whiskey and Sweet and Sour mix)
Rum and Coke (Self Explanatory)
Black Russian (Vodka and Kahlua if you like Coffee this is great)

Most of these drinks will only cost $4 or $5 dollars which is about what your standard beers like Bud or Corona cost and hey it beats drinking beer.

Beer is cheaper than buying mixed drinks. The best beer to buy would be Bud Light. It's a smooth light beer. If you buy a draw beer which is beer in a mug and not in a bottle that could be cheapest, but it could give you a worse hangover if you drink too much. Of the mixed drinks which are the most expensive you will just have to experiment to see what you like everyone has different tastes. Try the following: Tequila Sunrise,Crown and Seven which is Crown Royal and Seven-Up or Crown and Coke.

Beer is always a good easy one to order (try ones like VB), or whatever they have on tap (you can usually see that at the bar. Wine is also a nice and easy drink to order, but watch out for where you are as in some places you might be the first drinking the wine that week and the bottles open already (off wine is nasty). How about all those girlie drinks that are displayed in the fridge behind the bar? they are usually price reasonably, maybe a little more than beer, but have more alcohol in them to make up for it!. some lovely places in Prahran or st kilda.

Beer is fine. just ask for a beer - there carton draught,VB..ect.
Or you can have cocktail but the really expensive like abt $15. You can also try these: most girl like them

Vodka with coke/lemonade
Burbon with coke
Ginger tonic with lemonade

You can try to mix and match. also try 'shots' if you dare, they really strong and abit pricy too. I love chics that can drink, they showed me they strong and can stand up to the challenge. Its good if you dont drink beer, because only guy drink beer-well some chics do. Since i live in Syd, where do i meet you to get that promise free drink?

Bourbon on the rocks. Jack Daniels or Makers Mark, or you may even bypass The Wild Turkey course. in case you want it a touch sweeter, you may continually upload coke to the bourbon, yet only use the nicely bourbon. No reason to pay for better booze in the journey that your only going to blend it. Or, if the without delay bourbon is only too reliable, make it bourbon and water. yet have self assurance me, on the rocks, the ice will melt straight away adequate and it will be tremendous. even as that is an obtained style, you'll likely discover that you'll have a good time with it as you already drink rum. Oh, one extra project, you may continually commence with some bourbon cokes, then swap to rocks. after the first one or 2, you gained't fairly note the version. Ummm, gotta love that bourbon :-)

In the hot summer, order a gin & tonic. House gin is fine if they ask. Ifit doesn't come with a lime, ask for one. Also, if it's a good occassion, and you're celebrating, go for a Tanqueray & tonic ...it's pronounced tank or ray

edit: the orange juice and vodka in the first answer is called a screwdriver. Another fun drink to try is a margarita on the rocks with salt. Order it just like that.

Some other options besides beer are Smirnoff Ice drinks, they are about the price of beer, are served in the bottle and taste pretty good.

something good to drink is peach schnapps and orange juice. That's what I always get.You can hardly taste the alcohol and they are pretty tasty.Real easy to drink. I don't think they are too expensive.
Oh yeah and like the other girl said...vodka and orange juice is pretty good too, but I quit drinking it after I discovered peach schnapps and orange juice.

i drink beer. Coors, coors light, corona, red stripe, or whatever they have on tap, i usually choose the amercian beers.
If I want to get drunk i drink whiskey or southern comfort, straight, but usually with coke. I always ask for what specials they got going on and if i like them I get it.
