Why when every time im asked what religion i am, i say athiest. just to end up being read the entire bible from cover to cover because they think i NEED to be saved?
Why do i get persecuted for believing the way i do?

these questions are targeted mainly at christians but do not single out EVERY christian on the planet.

i just wanna know basicly WHY i HAVE to believe in anything?
If its wrong for me to believe in nothing tell me why in a constructive non rage filled manner. i will not tolerate "religi-rage" messages stating how "evil" i am and how i should "open my eyes and see just what im doing to myself by not believing"

"go to hell" comments are accepted :) lol

I think its sad how quickly people think they are being persecuted just by hearing preaching. To claim you are being persecuted by someone saying you need to be saved really is an insult to the people in history who have endured true persecution - who have been physically tortured, their possessions and houses confiscated, their family imprisoned, mocked publicly and even murdered. The fact that some religious people may deliver sermons on the streets and publish books and whatever else is not a sign of persecution, it is a sign that we have gotten away from oppression and have opened the door to the free-exercise of religion and, consequently, the freedom of conscience. The cost of that freedom is that you have to endure seeing and hearing people who want to propagate their faith, but you do not have to fund their ministry, attend their assemblies, read their books, or pray to their deity. If I see a person of a different religion praying in a public park, I don't cry out that I'm being persecuted, I smile, glad in the fact that they are worshiping their God while I am not being forced to. I think its great to see public displays of one's religion.

First of all, I'm not a Christian. If U don't believe me, u r welcome to go to my Q&A

Now, as to answering your question, 'WHy I have to believe in anything?' Well, to my thinking (N I may be 100% wrong) that when u believe in science, n think science has all the answers..... well, science does NOT have all the answers. Science does not teach you your moral lessons. Science tells you to how to create a bomb, but nowhere does it tell you if creating a bomb is ok or no. It is reliegion which tells you what is wrong and what is right.

But dont get me wrong. I'm not saying that you are not a moral person. Most probably, you are a perfectly moral person knowing what is good and what is bad. We just take religion to help us in doing the right things. Like there are teachers at school to help one learn the textbooks, keep the discipline and so on. Almost every student knows that it is not a good idea to the fire alarm n even if we do, we might get detention. The detention part enforces the student even more not to do it........ if u get what i mean.

well, I'm a religious person but I don't go with christianity. There was a time when I didn't believe in god either but now.... it all changed. Maybe I'm stupid........ but that is the way how it is.

Religion has always been a cutthroat game. Look at history, the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition...to name a couple. It is human nature to judge others, and even though the Christians believe it is God who will make the final judgement they continue to condemn.

I find it useless to argue with people like this. I either ignore them completely or cannot hold in my laughter. When people tell me to go to hell my response is simply : "Look around you...I'm already there. But sadly, you're stuck here as well." (I guess that's not simple...oh well, they don't usually listen to me anyway).

You don't HAVE to believe in anything, no one is making you do so. And because you have the free will to choose, why not make that choice? I did. If it makes you're life easier to not believe in anything then your answer is obvious. For me, I find it much easier to not believe in any gods. It seems like they would do much more harm than good. Or at least they have if you look back into the history of religions.

I have no idea.. but I know why its such a huge matter.
Because no one can provide much physical proof for a person, especially when humans were born "know it alls" and control freaks and they think they know everything when they really don't. And some people have evidence and things and then when they tell people the evidence they think they're lying.
People are always gonna be like children, not even kidding. People will always have to get what they want, or they will get mad. They will always have their own stinkin CORRECT opinion about everything. That's the way the human race is and no one can really change it. YUH.

Religion is about believing 100% that whatever way of life that you are following is correct. Otherwise there would be no point in following these guidelines and sticking to these restrictions. I myself believe that anyone who does not die as a believer of my faith, which is not Christianity, will be punished accordingly. Religion sometimes fuels a persons emotions and passion and most religious people love God above every one and everything else. People who acquire great knowledge of their religion, those who know their scriptures, and generally the wiser folk amongst us would not scream profanities and damnation down any ones throat. i guess that those people that you speak to want to tell you that maybe if you do read their holy book you might be swayed into believing or that your heart may be softened into understanding just a little bit more.
Ultimately I think that nowadays religion has become more cutthroat because society has advanced with regards to technology etc, allowing us to interact with each other more and more leading to us learning about the faith of our peers. We either embrace them as they are or force them to look the other way so that they can see life from our point/s of view.
On a broader scale Religion has become mixed up with politics to such an extent that it is hard to tell between the two. Sometimes wars are faught in the name of politics but the lines are so blurry that we end up making it a religious issue.

Wheather you believe or not is your choice. Wheather you choose to pray to God or not is up to you. I still mantain that you are wrong. One of my reasons is that it is only through the mercy of God that we have been blessed with so much, and in thanking Him the least we could do is to believe. Just as you may find it hard to believe, I find it equally difficult to disbelieve. As I see the bounty of God (the God that I believe in obviously)everywhere, from the day-night cycle, to our ability to see, to the food chain, to the trees. But thats just me. To each his own. Peace, and hey people have been treated worse and still are for their beliefs. Most of us (whoever we are and whatever we do) got it easy:)

You have the right to believe in what you believe. I am a Cristian and I believe that religion is for many a cutthroat game, as you put it. It has to do more with spirituality and believing in Jesus our Savior. You won´t be forced to open your eyes and see anything, when God enters your life- you'll feel it.

In the US, it's because the Republicans empowered them. The evangelical christian community has used the opportunity to the hilt in an effort to force their beliefs and laws on the public.

Evidently, their religion doesn't have enough appeal based upon its own merits to attract followers, so they have resorted to subverting our laws.

I find it dispicable.

It is only a game if you play it. I don't play religious games with anyone. My beliefs are too precious to me. I have no bad feelings toward you or your non belief...it is your life, live it as you see fit for you. Allow me to do the same without anger or bitterness towards me.

for my area, i do not want to position self assurance in any particular faith or philosophy. like you suggested, they are reflections of custom and condition and frequently do not translate to different techniques of being. i have not in any respect heard of a conception device that did not have some reliable factors to it, yet none of them have the entire answer. yet are those obtainable that want an entire answer. so that they'll settle for his or her beliefs inspite of each and each and every of the failings and fallacies. i do not really comprehend why those human beings experience like want each and each and every of the solutions, and that i wager i'm in faith and spirituality attempting to comprehend.
