I am a hairdresser for many years, I've not seen any "rough" hair, if the coloring was done properly and with good products. I've seen damaged hair, if that's what your concern is. ( damaged hair includes falling hair and dryness )Damaged hair can come from many wrong techniques, such as blow drying too often, frizzy perms, color left on too long, too many procedures with no conditioning done in between. Too many creme rinses or conditioners can tend to build up on the hair, also..they contain wax.
As for the cheapest and best hair dye ( color is the term) you'd
have to experiment, and test which conditions your hair the best. Whichever you choose, you should deep condition your hair, from time to time..especially if you use other styling techniques on your hair.(blow drying, perms, etc.)
Good luck, and hopefully your hair will look beautiful and healthy!

You can avoid most of the dryness by following the instructions carefully, and using the specialized conditioner that comes inside the hair dye box. You could also try leaving in the treatment for a shorter amount of time. Every time I've dyed my hair it has ended up being a little drier than before dying, but if you use a conditioner every once in a while it's not a big problem.
As far as the cheapest, why bother looking for it? The most I generally see hair dye go for is $10. Just get the good stuff, and have the peace of mind that it'll probably be better for your hair than the $3 junk.

yes, constant dyeing will cause yr hair to be dry and causes hair fall as well. Don't go for the cheap dye, get it done professionally in a salon. @ least it looks more presentable. While doing it yrself, there will be areas behind that you will missed out. It will look really wierd... go and find a salon that's not too expensive

yes it does, if you do it too often. it's not really recommended if you already have dry frizzy hair too. you won't want ur hair to fall apart.
cheapest way i know is those diy hair dyes (l'oreal is good). get tips from friends who have done it before so that you won't mess up. after dying, use damage control products to keep ur hair lookin lively.

it probably wont do anything the first time but if you keep dying it before it all grows out, then it'll be dry
