Any hard core surf/pier fisherman out there?

The best is a Lamiglass with a Van Staal but, for the money, check out the Tica and a Penn 710z.

I use an ugly stik for the money I feel it's the best rod out there and a penn reel I go every time I get a chance if you find any good surf fishing web sites email me please good luck

well im not into the surf fishing thing that much, but got a surf beast 10 ft rod at a very good price,it is enough to land small sharks as long as they dont bite through the steel leader.
and the more expensive rods are already listed, i simply wont pay alot for something i use once or twice every three years.
but it did very well its a large white rod and the maker was forgotten i left it with my son at the beach.

I'd go for Daiwa or Shimano, but, of course, the rod market is more open than the reel market meaning that there are tons of good rods out there.
