Strength I don't think is what you want to ask. You probably want to know which is the better weapon. An axe is swung just so, up and over the head in a large, circular motion. It was primarily used by poor farmers for close attacks. Swords are long, thin, and they will break if you use them improperly (then again so will an axe, if you try cutting down a metal light pole for example). I do not know much about European models, but Japanese swords can be used up close (with stabbing motions) or farther away (earlier models could be used on horseback, and some sword models have blades 28" long or more). Swords also lend themselves better to change of directions (i.e. if you miss, you can cut in an opposite direction, whereas as axe doesn't really let you do that). I hope that helps you.

An axe is heavier and less agile. If you give both a chance to take a full on swing the axe might do more damage but swords are way faster and in a fight go with a sword

The axe would be stronger but none of it will matter when the guy with the sword cuts your head off before you get the chance to lift your axe.

The Axe is a weapon designed originally for untrained war troops. Axes require the least amount of training, just swing and hit. Swords require training and maintenance. Swords rely on skill, axes rely on strength.

if you are very much strong and if you have enough power to swing axe as sword means axe is okay.Otherwise swordman wont give you a chance to lift your sword.
