Love birds are very, very territorial about their cages. My love bird tolerates my hand to attach a millet spray inside the cage, but other than that he will bite the dickens out of me if I reach in the cage. But, if I open the door, and hold my hand just outside of the cage and call him, he will happily climb out and get on my hand. With a biter, you might want to "stick" train him first. You use a perch stick, and attempt to get him on it by putting it up against the bottom of his belly area, always saying "step up" as you do it. When he does it you give him heaps of praise and whatever it is that you use as a treat for him.

I did it the hard way, with my hand. They do have one heck of a bite for a small bird! I know a breeder who once told me he would rather be bitten by a big bird than a love bird because when they get ahold of you, they twist the skin as they bite.

My macaw will nip, but as a rule it is not hard. I used to have an indian ring neck parrot who was a horrible biter! LOL, the shop sold her to me cheap because no one but me was crazy enough to stick my hand in the cage with her. She eventually got to the point where I could hold her, but no one else could.

My sun conure was massively "hand shy" when I bought him. It took a full year before I could get him to step up onto my hand. He is still uncomfortable, but he does it, then runs up my arm to my shoulder where he will happily sit all day if I let him.

To tell the sex of a small bird, a pet store owner or a bird breeder can feel the pelvic bone area. Females have a small spread between the bones that is not evident in the male.

I just figure, the worst they can do is bite me. LOL, except for the Macaw... if she ever turned nasty she could do some pretty decent damage. But I weaned her from three weeks old, so she thinks I am her mommy. LOL, she even calls me Mama.

Persistance is the key. That and a sore finger!

I TOOK MY LOVEBIRD TO THE NEAREST PET STORE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT SHE WAS A FEMALE. IT DIDN'T COST A THING. I WOULD CALL AND ASK IF THEY CHARGE FOR TELLING OR A VET IT USUALLY DOESN'T COST ANYTHING. I WOULD GET A NICE THICK GLOVE AND START HOLDING IT DAILY THIS IS USUALLY HOW TO TAME THEM OR I WOULD HOLD A CRACKER IN YOUR HAND AND GIVE IT TO YOUR BIRD THAT HELPS TO. GOOD LUCK!

Lots and lots of work and time with the bird. Was he hand raised?

if u hurt bird before then it's natural she'll stay away. kust handle her more and show her that u're not afraid of her.

Hi - sorry I don't know the answer to your question, but I had to let you at least know that I got a giggle out of the title!
