There are no legally free versions of Microsoft Word. However, there are many alternatives that you can use to complete your project:
1. OpenOffice Writer - Comparable to Microsoft Word and part of OpenOffice. Download OpenOffice from http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.4/index.html
2. Google Docs and Spreadsheet - Online word processor. Go to http://docs.google.com/

Microsoft Word is not Free. Microsoft word comes as part of Microsoft Office package. Incase you want tio use a free software which gives you al functionalities of word use suns openoffice.org. Its free and you can store files in Word format also.

You will have to buy Microsoft Office to use Word. But there ARE free word processors that you can use as an alternative. Here it the link to one:
