I clear up my dog's mess - its the law. Should the same law apply to horse owners?

How about if they're holding a horse jumping competition in a public park? A park where local people take their dogs for walks and children to play.

If horses are in public areas, like directly on a public roadway or in a park, it is expected that the owner/rider will clean up the mess. There are actually products made specifically for this issue, a discrete baggie that fits beneath the horse's tail to collect the mess. For examples such as have been given, such as a jumping competition held in a public park, this wouldn't be a reasonable option, however, either the competitors should be instructed that they'll be expected to assist with clean-up or those hosting the competition should make reasonable accomodations to make certain public areas of the park are cleaned properly.

No it would not be practical for a riding horse . I know some carriage horses owners have a "pouch" on their carriages that catch the mess.
I think the reason why it's not a issue with horses though is because horses are vegetarian's and their mess beaks down very quickly and birds also clean it up fast. Dogs eat meat and have very fowl bowel movements that do not break down quickly.
In your comments you mention a jumping completion held in a park. In that case I think the horse event organizer should clean up the mess.

I've never thought of that before. It's a very good point. What about police horses? Haha - we should all go up to policehorse riders and ask them what they think about the picking up mess law...

And definitely if it's a horsey event, there should be designated people to do it when the event has finished. Unless it's on private land like a farm where there would be cows in the field anyway!

Well, I sure would hope there was a law that applied to cleaning after horses too. But, law or no law, if you are a horse owner you should be entitled to clean after your horse(s) if you care about their health. Leaving a dirty stall can lead to all sorts of maladies as a result of flies and things breeding in the manure.
Therefore, it should be done regardless of law, and it is not acceptable for owners to not clean up.

If you mean a 'law' for horse-owners or riders to clean up after their horses while riding downtown or in a public space or park, well it's unlikely that a rider can do much about that. It would be extremely inconvenient and impractical to dismount and clean after their horse!

I think that horse owners should clean up the mess as seeing a load of horse **** on the road is a lot worse than seeing dog **** on the floor it's really disgusting

Yes they should clean up the mess, but when i was a kid I remember horses being taken out and if they did mess people used to rush out with a shovel to gather the manure for thier roses. Thats what you call recycling.

because it smells magnificent, isn't risky to every person which include young children and canine and it does reliable on the flora. are you able to imagine the threat and inconvenience of carrying round a feed sack and a shovel each and each and every time you hack out? you'd be a hazzard on the line! And couldnt administration the pony! Horse poo is wonderful. not poor in any respect, stop being a townie, get out of your living house and stay a touch contained in the geographical area, take excitement in nature :)

Horse muck is hardly the same as dog poo seeing as they are herbivores. however, it depends where its done. In the field where they live? or in an urbanisation. I think yes in the latter and its up to the owner in the former.

I was just thinking the same myself yesterday, honest!
I totally agree and think it's irresponsible for them not to, I saw some on a pavement near my sons school yesterday, the school is near some stables and I often see horse poo dotted around.
