I have a bassett that will be 9 months old soon. I feed him once a day a full large cup of dry dog food. If I feed him more he will just dump the bowl over in his kennel and doesn't eat it. Every now and then for a few days he will vomit up a yellowish or white liquid, never food. I am not sure that this is food related because I have not changed his food and he does go for periods where he doesn't vomit at all. Can anyone help or have any suggestions?

I also have another problem with not only him but the other two dogs in my home. We can not keep them out of the cat litter box. We catch them in it all the time. They also will find piles where the outside cats have used and eat it.

Thanks for any suggestions you can give......

If your dog is throwing up alot he could have worms. If your dogs are eating poop outside they can easily catch parasites! So, plz, take all of your dogs to the vet and get their feces checked!

Why exactly dogs eat poop nobody really knows. Some say it's because their diet is lacking in proper nutrition (if you buy the cheap dog food with alot of filler and no good stuff) and some say it's just the taste. There are sprays and pills you can find at the petstore that claim to stop the poop eating, but I've never tried them so I don't know if they work.

I just watched on Animal Planet a show called emergency vets and tonight's show was about animals who had swallowed something. It is entirely possible that she got a hold of something she should not have. Dogs will eat rocks, metal, they had x-rays showing where one dog actually ate a padlock - Take her to the vet in the am and get an x-ray and find out what you are dealing with. I keep some things on hand for emergency treatment - one is a paste vitamin. Dogs don't like something on their nose and even a really sick dog that won't eat will lick something off their nose. I put this on the nose of the dog to make sure they get enough vitamins and iron when not eating. Good Luck -let us know how she does.

Cat poop is very bad for dogs - do NOT let them eat it. I keep my cat box in a room with a child gate over the doorway that way the cats can get in but the dog cannot. Think about the litter that is attached to the feces also - none of that is good for his digestion.

The yellowish stuff is bile from his stomach - meaning his stomach is upset. You can give him pepsid ac twice a day - I'd try once a day when he starts throwing up to see if it helps. would be really good for him to go to the vet though to make sure there aren't any other problems going on that you dont know about

Please take your dog to the vet. All dogs occasionally get an upset tummy and throw-up, but vomiting repeatedly is a big sign of trouble.

I have the same problem with the Kitty litter and my Basset Hound. I have fixed the problem by putting the kitty litter box in a closet, I leave it cracked for the cats. I have put up one of those child gates up between the door jam to block my dogs access to it. Its worked out awesome, the cats just jump over the gate to get to their potty and I think they even like the added "security". I always make sure to tell my dogs "no" when they get near the kitty litter too. When the dogs are outdoors, I take the gate down. Works like a dream.

I strongly recommend you take your basset to the vet ASAP. The vomiting is NOT a good sign.
Eating the cat stool is a bad habit. Usually this is because they are looking for some nutrient they are not getting in their diet.
You have not stated what you are feeding your dogs and or how you are feeding your dogs.
Personally I would remove the kitty litter box to a location the cats can get to but not the dogs. If that is not possible then I would crate the dogs when I can not supervise them.
In any case when you bring your basset in to have him/her vetted ask the vet what he/she recommends to do about the kitty potty raids the dogs are doing.
Good luck.
