I was 10 yrs old when I started smoking, I am now 35. I have quit now for the second time for 2 months. It is a decision she will have to make. The best way is to quit "cold turkey",just lay them down. I now have asthma and emphysema from smoking, and other health problems. And I DO NOT ALLOW any one to smoke in my home. My grandmother died from COPD,and lung cancer because she smoked. And that's one reason I'm not going to start back this time,I watched her suffer from not being able to breath, she also lived with a trac for 2 yrs in her throat,it was doing her breathing for her.Good luck on getting her to quit, and I hope she does.

You can't. Quitting has to be a personal decision, one that a person can't be pushed into. Chances are that the more you push, the more she'll continue to smoke.

She's 50 years old, she's well aware of the risks involved, and beyond that, it's her decision as an adult to pursue a legal activity, whether you approve of it or not. The most you can do is tell her you're concerned for her health, then leave it alone.

You can't. Smoking is an addiction. Once you start it, you can stop it. Try to talk to her and tell her its for her own good. Tell her not to stop smoking but reduce the number of cigarettes she smokes. If its 20 cigarettes she smokes, make sure that she smokes only 10 next time. Reduce 10 to 5 and 5 to 2. You can only reduce her cigarettes but can never stop her from smoking. Scientists are trying to make a drug to make people quit smoking and I can only pray for them to make it fast.
Good Luck!

You can't and if your tormenting her then you should stop. 50 year olds rebel just like young people do when parents start harping on them. It is best to enjoy your mother now while you have her. She will quit when she is the one that wants to. Not when you want her to. Sorry if I sound harsh but that a fact of life.

She will eventually stop once she gets cancer. It seems people stop when they have to or have no other choice or die. One day the doctor will tell her stop smoking today or you will be dead in a year. That is what they told my mom who smoked all of her life. She stopped that day but it was too late and it took her life a year later. People do what they want.

It is an addiction and hard to stop. You must pray for her.

You cant! She will quit when she is good and ready. Also keep in mind that Cigarettes are more addicting than Heroin.
