Start with the Gospels in the new Testament side, the back of the Bible: Matthew, Mark, Luke, etc. Spend extra time on the Book of John, then go to Romans, Corinthians, Ephesians....God Bless you and enlighten you through His word. It has power like a two edged sword, the Bible is the Sword for the Christian.

The best place to start with any book is in the begining -
page one, Genesis 1:1

There is a reason why the Bible starts on page one with Genesis 1:1 and finishes in Revelation 22:21 - the pattern of all books is to first introduce you to the topic, lay down a foundation, then build upon that foundations.

If you take other people's advice and start in one of the gospels - which is NOT the begining of the book but in the back of it - you will not properly learn what God wants to teach and what foundation you lay down will be warped.

The proper path that God wants all to read, is to start on page one with Genesis 1:1.

Dear Allybama,

My advice to you is to start with the gospel. i came to know the Lord actually by reading a Bible. A lot of it may not make sense to you- and so i also advise you to find a friend who is a believer or to find a Bible-teaching church where you can study the Bible and receive encouragement.

The Gospels are thematic and a great place to start:

Matthew- Jesus is King (that's why Chapter 1 begins with a genealogy that shows He has the lineage right to be the Promised Messiah)

Luke- Account that is focuses on Jews and Gentiles (a lot of stuff about how we should treat people, etc. based on Jesus' example)

Mark- Shows a lot about the Power of Jesus- many miracles and a lot of action.

John- Chracterized by the 7 I am statements where Jesus reveals His character to us.

Seriously- feel free to email me if you have questions about certain passages and i'd love to help you in my spare time. i pray that you will come to love and treasure God's word like i do and that it will change your life profoundly.

Psalms are great for knowing the heart of God.

Kindly,

Nickster

The book of John is an easy book to start and it explains the Gospel really well. . .Matthew is good too though and explains the same things but from a slightly different perspective. Hope this helps :)

PS - avoid alot of the old testament at first. . .it will be alot of so and so begat so and so or even some pretty crazy stuff that they did that is historically great and does have meaning but it would be alot to take in when first starting out :)

Start with the four gospels Matthew, Luke, John, and Mark. Get a feel of Jesus' character and his teachings. Relate it to what you currently see in the world.

For instance when he talks about love, do you see love in the people professing to be Christians around you when they believe in a war.

Did Jesus claim to be the Son of God or God himself? What relation did he have with his Father?

Luke chapter 21 and Matthew chapter 24 talks about the last days. Do you see it around you?

When he attacks the Pharisees and the Saducees do you see the same problems with today's religious leaders?

When he preaches resurrection on earth, how does that blend when people say they will go to heaven?

Genesis talks about why we die,a punishment given to Adam and passed to all his generation.

Don't be afraid to question and find proof in the Bible. If someone tells you something and claims to be in the Bible, asked them where.

Enjoy and may you find what you're looking for.

If you have a computer, go to www.watchtower.org and you will find many sections explained.
Example; Does Almighty God have a 'personal' name?
Answer; (Exodus 6:3) And I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty, but as respects my name Jehovah I did not make myself known to them.

Is Jesus God himself in another form or is Jesus a lesser one as God's son?
Answer; (John 5:19) Therefore, in answer, Jesus went on to say to them: “Most truly I say to YOU, The Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing. For whatever things that One does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

Is there a separate part of us that survives death?
Answer; No.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5-6) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.

Does this make sense?

Start with the book of Mark, it is the one that breaks the Gospel down into the easiest to read, and focuses on Christ and Him crucified more then the rest.
