I think the thing to do is just sit them down and tell them.
The reason that you should tell them (aside from the fact that parents inevitably respect honesty) is that they can help you do better.
Explain to them about the dance contest. Perhaps you can bargain with them, only to do the dance contest, giving up other extra-curricular activities. Tell them how important it is to you, while recognising that perhaps they are concerned about the bigger picture, which is the future of your education. Perhaps if you agreed to stay in and study, instead of going out with your friends.
You can expect them to compromise, but you can't expect them to make all the compromises. I assume that you made this agreement based on some poor marks before... how are they to believe you'll improve in future if you haven't yet.
I guess if you want them to let you dance, then you have to prove that you're capable of really knuckling down and filling your part of the bargain. This means a lot of hard work, but if you really want to dance, that's a lot of hard work too.
I would try and see your teachers and see what else you can do for extra credit. Perhaps you can get some extra projects or tuition to help you. Perhaps if you asked your parents to help supervise your homework more... then they will at least know that you're keeping your word, and they may be able to help you study better.
Don't be afraid to ask for help if you're failing... but don't feel like you shouldn't be allowed to have some fun. When you're studying hard it's important to take breaks, and to get some exercise. Maybe you could use this as an argument to help your parents decide in your favour.
The thing is to sit down and talk with them rationally, to show them a plan for studying and practicing, and to convince them that you're mature enough to do both things.
Good luck!

Well, there's no easy way for you to tell your folks your grades are falling. The best thing is to come clean. Okay, so you might not get to do your dance contest, but you know what? I think your parents will be proud of you for coming to tel them, especially if they know about the dance contest.
It might be that they come to a comprimise with you, and allow you to do the contest, as long as,say, you do an hour or so study before or after rehersals.

Sorry, but you can't have your cake and eat it too. A deal is a deal, and if the dance contest really mattered to you, you should have known from the very beginning that the only way to join is if you concentrated on your major subjects more.
Tell your parents.

You shouldn't join any extra curricular activities you obviously need to study. Learning to write and spell correctly takes more than working on it next semester. Show them this question you wrote.

Better to just get it over with and tell them than letting them find out some other way. That will only make matters worse for then they won't trust you. Just sit them down and talk to them.

you could tell them the truth because they knew that you had worked very hard and that you had try your best and that they will know how it is like and they expected you to study more hader next time and they will be proud of your improvements.
