I agree with momof4. She knows what she's talking about. I have a 4 yr old niece and she is very very smart for her age and as soon as she learned to talk she was talking in full sentences. She was never talked down to or spoken to in baby language. She has always been encouraged to make up her own mind. They always give her a choice - on what to eat, what to wear, etc., and they let her do things on her own - as long as it was not harmful and they did watch her so that she did not hurt hurself. They did this from a very early age. My sister kept saying that she must have been here before, because of some of the things she would say. She could actually make connections to abstract things. I don't know what they did, but I do know that they love her and encourage her in whatever she wants to do. They don't push her, they explain things to her and show her how to do things. She loves learning new things. She used to love to watch Dora but now she loves the Care Bears. For Christmas, all she asked Santa for was a clock for her bedroom and a barbie. She got the clock and was very excited by it. I bought her a tea set and she loved that also. So she is a mixture of being very grown up for her age and a typical 4 yr old with a great imagination. When I go over there, I always bring something like paints, little fun toys that I buy at the dollar store, bubbles, etc., and I spend most of my time with her playing and she looks forward to it. When she was very little and we would play blocks, I would say to her, I like the purple block. Can you find another purple one, and she would find it. Or I would say, wow I have 3 blocks, how many do you have and we would count together and most of the time she got it right. Or I would say, this is the number 2. Can you find another block with the number 2 on it and she would look for it. So there is lots of fun simple games that you can play with her AND make it a learning experience too. I probably did not answer your question, but I thought I would throw that out there. kids learn at their own pace and every kid is different. Just encourage her in the things that she loves to do and is interested in and introduce new things to her. But don't be disappointed if she just wants to have fun. congrats and have fun with her
