Since you didn't know her but you want to show your respect to your teacher you should go to the visitation. That will allow you a few minutes to express your sympathy to your teacher and tell him how sorry you are that he lost his wife.
Funerals are for the living, not the dead. Your kindness will not be lost on your teacher who will very much appreciate the fact that you thought highly enough of him to show respect to his wife.
Going to the funeral is optional for you.

I would go to the funeral but probably not the visitation as you didn't know her. But going to the funeral is supportive of your teacher and very thoughtful. If you don't feel comfortable going send a card and write something nice on it besides just writing your name.

I think it's wonderful that you want to be supportive. I just recently lost my mother and even though there were people there I didn't know it was so comforting to know people care.

i'm so sorry on your loss. in case you may have adequate money this, purchase a small filled toy for the three and 9 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous, purchase a e book or a CD for both older ones and for the widow purchase a remembrance e book and a disposable digicam to have someone taking pictures on the luncheon of those attending. This appears a way for the widow to remember who replaced into there because for the period of all of this, she is so bowled over, she probable gained't remember a lot of those there. The remembrance e book is the position every person wishing to can write a touch note to the widow (on the luncheon) and later she will positioned their pictures taken, on the web page. This works fairly nicely for a youthful widow like your Aunt.

I don't agree with the other answers. Personally I don't think you should attend. It's not like you were all friends, he is a "former" teacher and his wife you never met. Send a sympathy card and or flowers to show your condolences and leave it at that.

I'd go to the funeral, but not to the visitation. When you go through the receiving line, tell her who you are and what an infuence he had on you. Who knows, maybe you'll reconnect with some old friends, too.

Yes, by all means if you want to. Going to a funeral or to a wake is not only to pay respects to the dead, but to also pay respects to the survivors.

That would be showing respect to your teacher to go to the funeral or to the visitation. I think he would really appreciate it. If you don't want to go - just send him a sympathy card.

Either would be appreciated I'm sure.

The answer depends on you !!! Because you may feel good about going or you may feel you were wasting your time afterwards .... But then, why not return the favor the best kind of total gratification we can receive is when we feel good about helping others .... =) Just reflect on it and you'll know the right answer pretty soon !

I think that you could send flowers. That might be a thoughtful and respectful thing to do. And it would not be considered intrusive.
