I don't "persist in NOT believing in a higher power".
I came to that belief after many years of committment to, believing in, living and studying Christiainity.
It was knowledge, not ignorance, that led me to become an atheist. And it wasn't easy.
The nature of the world, from cosmology to sub-atomic physics to the structure of the human body was one strand, the history of the bible and the church another.
The world as I see it fits rather better with a framework of NO god than a framework including one.
(Though many details can be made to fit either model. It's there that the a lot of the confusion and conflict occurs, as each side can point to one "fact" but derive completely different implications from it.)

Because its a personal experience. Nobody wants to believe it just because someone tells them to. They have to reach it on their own. A higher power is something magnificent that cant be described in words, only the experience will do. If someone believes just because you tell them to, then you have taken the experience of getting there away from them, that is why they don't like it.
Let me just say that a higher power can be many things. It all depends on the individual.

Because they have a right to.
Just as you have a right to believe in a Higher Power everyone else has the right to believe in what ever they want to or what they don't want to.
They are no worse or better than those who believe.

Why do so many people persist in believing in a higher power? You've got you're views, they've got theirs, simple as that.

I would not let it worry you at lease they are looking at what is written
and some of it has to sink in, Remember Jesus is in control
He lets us plant the seeds and then he waters then and makes them grow
and when Jesus was alive and walked this earth how many people did not believe today it is no different, We can only do the will of the Father
as Jesus himself did
Matthew5;11
Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you
and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely" on my account
May God Bless you and have a good day

Why do so many people persist in FORCE-FEEDING unjustified, oftentimes hateful, hypocritical, and ignorant religious rhetoric down EVERYONE'S throats? Oh yeah... it's because they're too high on their own self-righteousness (and drugs) to realize that they're imposing when they should just back the f*ck away.

Because the road to Hell is extremely wide, and countless people enter the Jaws of Hell daily, their fate sealed eternally to wail and nash their teeth without end. It will be their loss, not the Righteous in Christ whom will endure forever in the Presence of the Great I Am.

Because nobody has ever proven or demonstrated that having said belief offers you a better or more effective way of living than non-belief.
Show me one thing a theist can do to live a better, happier life than a non-theist, and I'll consider your proposal.
