Why? Laziness and fear.

Easy answers require less work, less thinking and less education; one can be an expert on religion without knowing anything. Religion provides certainty but it doesn't provide understanding.

Hard answers require much work, much thinking and much education; one can be an expert on science and still not know everything. Science doesn't provide certainty but does provide understanding.

And to "thezaylady", you blathered:

"Why do you care? Why not let people believe in what they want to believe, as long as they're not hurting you."

Does this mean you actively prevent people from putting religion into schools, laws and government? If you're not for government secularism, then you are in favour of imposing religion on those who don't want it. That means religion IS hurting people and you are advocating it.

"thezaylady", you are a typical hypochristian.

...I believe Jesus of Nazareth is who He said He is, and that is God in the flesh. He said He is the only way to God. The claims He made could only have been made by a liar, a lunatic, or the Lord - He is Lord and God.
...I have no other way of explaining how a bunch of scared disciples became convinced proclaimers of the Gospel message, after Jesus's resurrection.
,,,I have no other credible way to explain the existence of the universe - God spoke and He created the worlds, out of nothing. His marvelous design is on all creation - a watchmaker does not get a working timepiece by putting watch pieces in a shoebox and shaking them up for millions of years, with time, chance, natural selection, etc. Just as a working timepiece requires a designer, this universe by designed by and sustained by our great and marvelous Creator God.
...I have no other way to explain the radical changes that Jesus Christ has wrought in my life: sins forgiven, a new love for God, a desire to pray, a hunger for God and His word, spiritual understanding like I never had before believing on Him, and a deep desire to proclaim the Gospel to those who are without Him (the lost).
...Psalm 14:1 The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God."
...I do wish you a blessed eternity. Please, if you never have, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved. Acts 16:31
...Whosover will, may come.

It is because they have experienced divine intervention.

God has been to their lives, and they cannot deny that God exist.

Looking back in history, Pal, I would rather say, "Why do people persist in NOT believing that there is a God".

In worshiping an idea, one can give themselves purpose, meaning, and something to strive for, even when that idea is imaginary. All they have to do is truly believe. Of course the obvious downside is that a person ends up with a life that's part imaginary, and can even be dangerous where a person starts following a doctrine that's self destructive, or destructive to the world around them.

Because of the voidness and the lack of purpose, the hoplessness.... It is a need... These feelings get numbed but every so often they reemerge. We have to believe. You need as much faith in believing that a one-cell organism created the society/world we live in as believing in a loving caring God who has been wanting you back since Adam.

For the same reason that 31% of Americans still believe in Bush. Some people are so ignorant and feel so insignificant about them self that they have to believe in some thing, even if they know for a fact that what they believe is a lie.

Because people are not programmed automotons that all think alike. We all have different experiences and reactions to things. Man is born with eternity in his heart, the knowledge of mortality yet we feel eternal so we assign that to God.

let me ask a question of you. why do alot of people persist in trying to disprove God's existence? We beleive in God because He has shown His reality to us. He is very real and very much alive. just because you cannot see or hear Him in the physicsal world, does not mean that He does not exist. he is above the Physical. He is very real and more powerful and intelligent than you could ever dream of. God's stupidest moment everis a million times smarter than the smartest human ever. I beleive in God because He has shown me a reality that is worth fighting for. i mean spiritually. i was on the brink of commiting suicide seven years ago and God stepped in and showed me a path that was better than i could imagine. i still havent really started on that path and already i am experiencing pure joy. i pitty those who do not belive in God. they are missing out on such fun and pleasure.

Since the existence of a Deity(s) can be neither proved nor disproved, it is a matter of faith. Some of us have faith, and that is enough for us. Simple as that. Why would you care? As long as neither you nor I attempts to impose their beliefs on the other, a basic rule of all Pagan religions, what difference does it make?
