I am trying to understand why congregations will spend millions of dollars building a new church when there are so many starving and homeless childern. Do they think that God is impressed? Do they think it will get them a better seat in heaven? Do they sleep well knowing they will have a brand new, state of the art church in which to worship while little childern are sleeping on dirty streets and in abandoned houses without a warm meal in their tummies?? Why does God not slap them silly? I guess it is because they are already stupid.

An excellent question.........I don't understand that either........ask the Pope who lives in unbelievable wealth while just outside the Vatican are poor and hungry people begging.

Well, Well, and the beat goes on. I had the same questions when I was young. Left the church. Got married, had a family etc. Then found that God is alive and well. And now lives in my heart. And if a congragation can afford that big church, check out their outreach programs. Usually they are giving a lot. But that still leaves some hungry children. I do not think anyone can adaquately answer that one. Because this world will never become a Utopia. And why not ask Why do people spend money on drugs when it could better be spent buying food, medicine whatever for the needy. Here where I live there arn't the conditions you describe. Where are they? For America

A lot of congregations don't. Yes, evey once in a while church buildings do need to be patched up, just like houses do. And God's House should technically be looked after better than our own houses. Also, church buildings have a purpose, those of you who don't go to one might not realise it but they do. When a ministry (ie Sunday School) grows, you may need to extend the building to accommodate numbers. But that doesn't mean that congregations are neglecting those who are in need.
The Church I go to (England) is saving up to have the big hall revamped. We don't even use the big hall for our Church meetings, we use the little hall. The big hall is only used for Sunday School and the meals for the homeless that we have once a week. So whose comfort are the renovations for? Mainly the homeless, who you seem to be very interested in.
Admittedly though, the church building I go to isn't exactly what you would call state of the art. A lot of the more ornate church buildings ae either catholic or church of england (here anyway) and I can't vouch for them.

...There are things for you to consider:
1. When a congregation outgrows their facilities, what are they to do? They call sell their property and erect a new facility; in the meantime they can rent school property which can get quite expense - our last church did this for 10 years. They try to force you to get your own property.
2. Is it good stewardship and lawful to have our instruments, offices, and office supplies, etc, in some sub-standard building?
3. Believe me, we are looking to build a new facility within the next 10 years, and they are pinching every nickel.
4. Where do you suggest Christians meet? None of our houses are big enough for our church - this is just a hard one to figure out.
5. Church now build multi-purpose auditorium for services and use the same room for many other functions as well - a much better use of available space.
6. Maybe some churches are luxurious - ours is not - it is practical and well-thought out. And we do give out food, spend a lot on missions, and help in the community.

Do a little online research, and you'll discover that the Catholic church is one of the wealthiest, most powerful entities in the world. They own more real estate than any corporation, they have stocks and investments in virtually every powerful global corporation, they have more gold than some countries, and if they were ranked on the S&P 500, they would land around 250. Quite a conundrum for a charitable institution that can't really ever do anything to spend this money. So one wonders why they don't give it all to the poor and disenfranchised?
This is what happens when you spend 500+ years sailing around raping, pillaging and destroying cultures in the name of Jesus Christ.

I agree that churches should not be so well built beyond what is necessary to hold the services that the people there will hold.
Magnificent structures are a waste. In Mathew Ch. 24 a disciple(most likely Judas based on the way he addresses Jesus) comments on the temple that Herod had built over a 40 year period, and all Jesus had to say about it was that it would be destroyed. These magnificent structures are foolishness, although church buildings are necessary

Why not pray in deepest at living house, have small conferences in peoples residences and massive activities in community areas as different communities do? i have been informed that references to church contained in the bible are literally not literal yet confer with the gang or faith - and if that's a question of interpretation, why not elect an interpretation the position wealth is directed to the position it is maximum needed?

Is like asking this question :Why i spend my money to build my house, buy my cell phones, go on vocation, buy my car, buy my gadgets, buy my clothes and etc,when there are so many starving and homeless children?
The Main point to build the church is so that people can stay inside and plan how to use the money to Help the poor.I don't know about other church but this is how my church is doing

Wow! Is that ever a well stated question.
Personally, I have no understanding of those who use money for fancy buildings etc....in the name of God. It doesn't seem likely that a Higher Power would be in favour of funds being used in that way, when in truth, hungry children walk past that same church every day.

I agree with you whole heartedly. They should know that God said to care for the widows and orphans and the people in prison. Why would the creator be impressed with a building when HE created everything? Bless You
