Do backgroung investigators have access to past law enforcment applications that I have filled out? In other words, If I put I used marijuana 20 times on the Sheriff application, and on the LAPD application I put down that I only used marijuana 3 times, will they find out? Stuff like that will they find out?

The reson I bring this up is because I don't remember how many times I actually smoked the stuff. So if I'd put one munber on one aplication, and a different number on the other, would they find out?

Why are you lying on a law enforcement application? Not a very good idea.

Yes, they could look at other applications to check for consistency. Since you are inconsistent in your story, you may be judged as highly likely to be inconsistent in your enforcment of the law, investigation, or report writing. In addition, your selective memory and dishonesty will not win you any points either. Law enforcement background checks are very thorough--they check out everything and everyone you are associated with.

I question your motive for wanting to be in law enforcement in the first place, if you are "worried" about your applications.

My question to you is why would you admit to it first of all. Nonetheless, Your talking state applications. Background investigations will only consider about the past 10 years of residency, some financial statistics, family, friends etc. They can then compare your answers by pulling your credit report and running a back ground check on you. If you were applying for a federal job then yes, background investigators will follow up with EVERYTHING. To include personal interviews with every reference to make you include some you don't.

Yes. I regularly review previous applications if I know about them. These applications are kept in your personnel file, if you have one. If you did not get selected, the application was probably shredded. Also, lying about it is an instant disqualification. Admit it if you smoked it because I will find out through your old neighbors, friends, school associates, etc.
