Ok, I am about 20 pounds underweight. I've already discussed this with my dr. and nutritionist, so I know this is true. However, I have very little appitite, and when I am the least bit stressed, I starve myself. It's my comfort to be hungry. But I know I'm underweight and my skinniness really bothers me when I look in the mirror. I know there are binge eaters out there who want to lose weight but don't know how. I've sort of got the same problem, only backwards. And please don't say "oh I wish I had your problem" because I'm so sick of hearing people say that. No you don't. I'm seriously worried about my health, and I need to figure out the steps toward getting better. Is there a website or a group out there? I could almost say that it's anorexia, except that I do not nor I have ever thought that I was fat.

Your eating disorders always come back to feeling a lack of control in your life......People have eating disorders mainly because they feel their world is out of control....So they maintain some control by not eating, sounds paradoxical, I know, but that is how it works.....I hope you seek some counseling to get to the root of your problems...Best of luck...

I learned in college that most people react to stress by eating. Stress triggers some hormone, and i can't remember it all because it is very involved But, it is the body telling itself to build up a good supply of nutrients in case it is in for a long haul. There are a few people who react to stress by not being able to eat. I do that. It's much more uncommon, but it is still the result of a hormone or neurochemical found in the brain. Its not voluntary and is truly the body at work. In this case the body is telling itself it has other worries and doesn't have the time to to start digesting food. A psychiatrist can tell if it is an eating disorder or a physical reaction to stress. They are trained in the mind and the body and have gone to school forever and ever. A psychiatrist may also be able to prescribe a medication to help your body respond differently to stress. Maybe it could help you eat at certain times. . You've obviously taken the appropriate steps by seeking medical help. Your doctors probably told you to find support. Your Dept of Human Services in your city or town may know of some support groups for you. Keep looking. I know you will find your answers.

If you are seeing a doctor/nutritionist, they should be councelling you on the right course of action, as well as whether or not this is truly a problem for you.
Being hungry is not a natural human comfort. Humans instinctively try to fill themselves when they feel hungry - it's a part of survival - so I definitely think you should be seeking medical and psychological help.
For the time being, you really need to make sure you're getting enough nutients every day.
Try drinking Ensure or a similar beverage if you can't actually get solid food down your throat.

I've always loved being hungry maybe you need to just drink a supplement like whey powder then you can just regard it like medecine and are not stressed to eat a whole lot and ensure you have the protein that your body needs most importantly to function, There is nothing wrong with being a certain amount underweight afterall everyone doesn't have to be the average size that a chart has decided they have to be. You mainly have to focus on that your body is working properly like your liver and your kidney's and your heart.

I know how you feel--I know I don't eat in times of stress because I feel like its the only thing I can control and I take comfort in that. At least you are aware of the problem and trying to correct it. The only advice I can offer is to try to find some stress-busting techniques to maybe help correct the problem before it begins!

Not sure, what about a bag of dried fruit and nuts. That way when you're stressed you can hopefully train yourself to eat them. Just force yourself to take a handful.
Do you like drinking milk? If so you should look for some drink supplements to obtain the nutrients you need while you're working on this. You need to try and train yourself to find comfort in food.

NO i dont have that problem but i know that u can try to eat. Even though being hungry is ur comfort u should try to get used to eating foods that u like. I know that it'll be hard but just try it. Please. I know that u want an honest answer so just try to get used to eating and eat good fatty food. I think Avacado is a fatty food. And just try 2 eat even when ur not hungry but make sure its fatty food because then ur metabolism is going to get fast. Good LUck w/ gaining weight and i know ur not anorexic :)
