My granny just passed, and I am all that she had left, and she had no insurance. I am on a fixed income, I got the cheapest funeral possible, and even could not allow an extra day of visitation before the funeral because it cost to much. I have checked all the help resources I know of and no one can help. What can I do? I am stuck with the bill.

If she was on Medicare, there is a death benefit I believe it is like $250 only. Did she own any property that you can sell? A home, furniture, jewelry? If the answer is no, then you will have to tell the funeral director that you cannot pay the bill in full- make arrangements for a payment plan, and also, check his bill to what is the acceptable fees for your area- you can go online and get that info from your state.....if you do not own a home, there really isn't anything the funeral director can do. Sorry for your loss

I am very sorry. I know exactly how you feel as the same thing happened to me.

Perhaps you should have Granny cremated. It costs a lot less and you can still have the burial service, etc.

I agree with the suggestion to ask local churches. I also agree with the option to cremate. Either way, you could always ask around at the local churches first and then have her cremated if that doesn't work out. Sorry for your loss.

You dont need a funeral. If people get upset with that then you can explain to them that there is no money and if they want then they are more then welcome to pay for it.

The cheapest is to have her creamated.

best wishes. That is a horrible situation.
I have been there as well. I made payments for a 18 months.
The lesson learned was- make it right for you, don't leave it to others to handle it.

Hand her body over to the police if u cannot afford her funeral. In that case, u will have to hand over her assets also to the State.
