Perhaps they are getting too many baths? This can be very drying to the skin.
However, I'd be suspicious that they have some sort of infection or condition as they ALL have it. If it were an allergic reaction, it probably wouldn't be all of them.
I would go to Petsmart or Petco, and tell them what's going on. They've probably got a good idea and can help you. Going to the vet can be very expensive, but if nothing else, I'd take the one who has the worst symptoms, and then treat the others with the doctors recommended treatment.
A couple of other things it COULD be is fleas...check around the ears and eyes, or, are you using something like Carpetfresh? This could be getting into their fur.
Just keep ruling things out and eventually, you'll find the reason. Oh, one other thing, what about their diet? Are they eating a generic dog food? They could definitely have a vitamin deficiency, and if they are not getting the proper nutrition from their food, they will pull their hair out and get almost mangy looking.
Good luck hon! You sound like a loving "doggie mama".

Try a different kind of food to start with. Secondly, sounds like they may have hot spots. Try some Benedryl for them (check with the vet first) and that will help the itching. Vet can also give a cortisone shot for the itching. They need to go to the vet and be properly diagnosed. DO NOT use human shampoo on the dog. Get an oatmeal based shampoo at the pet store.
Good luck.

Gosh..this could be so many things. Food allergies, contact allergies, flea allergies, mites, mange, over bathing. Try using an oatmeal shampoo w/a conditioner. Are they licking their paws or going crazy around the face scratching or runny eyes. These are signs of allergies and benedryl can help. There is also a creme that contains hydrocortisone 1% called Resicort that you can get from your vet. Its anitpruritic and anti-inflammatory. Your best bet would be to have a vet look at them and come up w/some protocals and steps to take. This really could be so many things and needs to be looked over by a vet for the fastest relief for your dogs. Its odd that all 4 dogs have the same symptoms for them to be allergic to all the same thing. could be more mange or a mite.

Since all 4 of your dogs have the same condition. we know the cause is environmental. A dog's skin and hair coat have a lot to say about their general health, and your dogs are missing something in their diet or have a terrible case of flea allergies. So, start by buying a truly excellent dog food. Don't balk at the price of these foods. You feed less food and the dog uses much more of what he eats. Don't feed as much as it says on the bag. Experiment so you find the amount that keeps the dogs at their ideal weights. Don't fall for those Beagle eyes: NO PEOPLE FOOD. Visit: www.WagginTails.com to buy the food or to do research. I like Canine Caviar or Wysong. You may be able to buy several brands in your city. I have mine shipped to me. Also ONLY use shampoos made for dogs and see Vet for flea allergy meds like Frontline Plus.

What are you feeding them? I would switch to a lamb and rice dog food, add a cooked egg three times a week, and give a skin and coat supplement like Linatone or Mirra-coat.Also,do they have fleas?Have you started using a new cleaner, air freshener,or carpet freshener? They could be allergic to something in your house.Try them on Benadryl(1 mg.per pound of body weight twice a day)If there's no improvement in 21 days, you should call a vet.Adding some fish(salmon ,sardines in oil, mackeral;canned is fine)might help as well. The person who mentioned the oatmeal shampoo is right;it is great for sensitive skin;very soothing.Good luck.

Here is a very simple solution and it doesn't require a visit to the vet, although you may want to check with your holistic vet first. As a matter of fact, it will save you vet visits. Switch to a raw dog food diet... that is grain free and nothing cooked. Includes a variety of meats, organs, bones, pureed veggies, and salmon oil. Dogs love it and you will be amazed at the change in your dog in just a few days. Lots of info on the internet. Check out www.all-about-raw-dog-food.com.
We have been feeding feeding this diet for 8 years. Nothing compares!

Wash your dog with oatmeal shampoo and conditioner. My Golden also, had the same problem. My vet told me that oatmeal shampoo and conditioner moisturizes and stops the skin from flaking. U can get this at Petco or Petsmart. Also, you may want to check out getting your dog Frontline Plus to keep the fleas and ticks off as they won't help this problem.

Although I have no personal experience with dogs and their skin, I remember reading a testimonial from a dog food website called "Canidae". Apparently it is suppose to be one of the best, nutritious and healthy food for a dog, and customers express their gratitude because their dogs would change, and stop having all these problems (such as flaky dry skin, watery eyes, etc.) So it might be because your dog has food allergies?
Good luck with your dogs, I hope they get better soon :]

It's very possible they have an allergy to their food, try changing their food, or talk to your vet about alternatives. Please don't ask the people at Petsmart or Petco, they really don't know. If this isn't the problem try putting olive oil on their food. It helps their skin & their coat. How often do you bathe them? If it's more than once or twice a month try cutting down the baths to see if that helps.
Good luck!
